How do you know if you have termites??

I have this weird, very fine sawdust looking stuff that is on the inside of the sills of my windows. I just noticed it and it's definitely not dust. My condo has wood siding and I have a pressure treated wood deck below the windows.

Is there a way to find out if it is termites?

And if it is, how much does a typical extermination cost.

This blows.

Call a pest control place... they'll come out and let you know.

Repair depends on how much damage they have done. Those little insideous bastards.

Is it possible to actually exterminate them ALL? And do you have to leave the house etc... when they do it??

Yes, and I am not sure if they tent houses and make youleave anymore - at least for more than a day. Not sure how they do it... prolly depends.

My window cranks are right above where I found the sawdust stuff so I hadn't noticed it until a few days ago so hopefully it isn't too bad...

God I hope someone is using a belt sander in my living room while I'm at work and I don't have termites... I'll have the heebeegeebees for a week.

have a pro check it out asap or it'll get worse.. those fuckers multiple like termites

It will cost between 100 - 200 bucks for them to determine when/where/how/why you have termites.

To extinquish them, I would say it would take a few treatments at 50-100 dollars a pop and then you should get safeguarded. Another 100 bucks or so.

Give me my 100,000k.

It depends on where you live and the extent of the infestation. Because termites are so bad in Florida, I know that they often have to tent the houses and have the occupants leave. In Kentucky, I've never seen a house tented for termites. Here they come out and spray and generally you don't have to leave the house.

I got PM'd by a contractor and he gave me the best advice so far. Sorry, but I gotta give him the 10,000 K.

But I'll hit all yall up in this thread.

He doesn't think it's termites. Probably spiders or something else.

He "doesn't think", Get a pest inspection done, don't guess

the very fine sawdust looking stuff is most likely from a type of bee that bores into (usually) unfinished wood to make their hive. There wont be little piles of sawdust from termites. If in doubt grab the wood around the sill and see if you can break it off in your hand. If it crumbles easily then yes probably termites.
