How do you increase finger strength

I mean for the pokes and such in martial arts. the guy I train with poked me in the ribs with his thumb while we were grabbling and it hurt like a bitch for awhile. I asked him how to strengthen my fingers and he told me to hit walls and such.... Is this true.

I'm starting to think you are pulling our leg with all of these posts... You just can't be serious about some of the stuff you post on this forum. If you are serious then a lot of the guys here can help you get the right info... If you are not then please take the games to chat, this is not why this forum is here.

well it really does hurt to have someone jab their thumb into your ribs
I'm not sure jabbing your fingers into a brick wall is a good way to increase fingerstrength tho
wouldn't be my first option..

Hardcore kung fu guys stick their fingers into buckets of sand. the goal is to try touch the bottom of the bucket. id imagine that would strengthen your fingers

Sounds cool but I bet it must hurt when some of the sand gets caught under your fingernails and you keep jabbing them in.

rock climbing is a great way to increase your finger strength, upper body stamina and agility all in one go

One way to strenghten hands and wrists, is to

1)extend your arms out in front of you

2)turn your palms away from you, fingers up

3)fully open your fingers

4)make a super tight fist.

the idea is to repeat #3 &#4 as fast as you can, so you open, close, open, close for atleast a minute. count the number of times you open in that minutre. the trick is to get faster as time goes by.

sounds useless.. well give it a go, if you do it as fast as you can it should burn like a bitch. dont reccomend doing it before a killer workout. try at night before bed or when your feet hit the floor in the morning.

this will increase your grip over time. as hey, its Shaolin, and sure beats sand.

simple....finger pushups
start w/ all fingers and work your way down to only using 3 (including thumb) on each hand. And if you can use even less fingers, then......

I think it's an excellent question. thumb and finger stikes such as knife strike are common in karate and kung fu. Can't do them if your wearing pads... BRR think kung fu is a joke hence his responese, but you should be free to talk about such issues since this is a martial arts foum...

Anyway thumb and finger strikes are good to places like the short ribs and spots on the neck.

1. piano balls... YES! if you can find them or take 2 small apples and do circles with the 2 apples in your hand.
2. push ups on fingers
3. pull ups. Yes builds good grip strength. Take 2 towels and place over the top of the bar. do pull ups while gripping towels
3a. Any back excersize without wrist wraps. This will force you to grip the bar or dumbell when doing rows for example
4. I've never had any luck with the grip toys such as this http://www.bodytrends.com/gripmast.htm

When I was submersed in martial arts I did 2 things for fingers:

1. Hold your hand out in front of you with your fingers extended all the way out. Slowly clench your hand into a perfect fist. Extend your fingers back out FULLY. Do this slowly many times slowly increasing the speed as you can do it fast. The important part is form and precision.

2. If you can find 2 very thin rods of bamboo or some similar hard yet fexible material, rubber band 1 end of them together. Make sure the end you wrap with bands is TIGHT. Then all you do is use your fingers ONLY to twist the pieces around each other, starting at the "base" of course.

I have been scanning other forums trying to put together a program for myself. After I get back into good shape I will most likely start doing martial arts again or at least work old patterns and habits into my workout routine. The amazing thing about martial arts is that once you have the technique down it is hard to ever lose it. My shins are still strong, and my legs are still limber, etc. Just make sure you NEVER slack and always strive for precision and technique no matter how slow the progress seems.

fuk finger stregth..if you put your hand in the right posistion you can reinforce your thumb to give someone a good poke in the side...

next time he pokes u in the sidE

RIP HIS FUKIN EYEBALL OUT!!!

In rock climbing we use fingerboard to strengthen our fingers, it makes you use your full extended hand to lift your body weight but with out using your thumbs, its a great way to work your fingers, just google ''fingerboards'' for more info
