How do you guys avoid putting on too much fat when on a bulking cycle?

I was thinking about doing the old cardio, slow and steady for 30-45min first thing in the am every day to burn off some fat.

Does this sound feasible?

Have you guys done this?

Thanx

never done it. I've always adjusted calorie intake when I thought I was putting on too much fat.

Don't be scared of the fat, that's what a cutting cycle is for.

YOU COUILD TRY XENADRINE TO HELP CURB THE APPETITE FOR THE SWEETS..
BUT I AGREE WITH LAWNSAVER. YOU WANT TO BULK UP..
WATCH WHAT YOU EAT...TAKE IN PROTIENS, CALORIES AND KEEP THE CARBS AND SUGARS AROUND 75 TO 100gm A DAY AND YOU WILL BE GOOD TO GO!!
:D :D :D

Ummm...stay away from Taco Bell, Wendy's, BurgerKing, Carl's, Micky D's....basically eat right, eat mass amounts of healthy whole foods. just my pesos worth.

The best results I got by doing 30min of cardio after each workout (4 times per week) and eating VERY strictly, which was the hardest part.
Egg whites in the morning with bagel, Ephedrine and coffee;
Protein shake with skim milk, flax seed oil;
Turkey breast or chicken breast or tuna from can with steamed rice;
Protein shake with skim milk, flax seed oil;
Ephedrine and coffee preworkout, a few fruits;
Protein shake with fruit juice right after workout;
Steak or myself made burger(turkey or lean beef) with baked potato or pasta with myself made meat souce;
Yougurt or small peanut butter sandwich with skim milk, right before bed;

10 weeks, without cheating turned me into moody mofo, but produced excellent results.

I think guys get too carried away with "bulking." I guess that's why you hear guys claim 'I gained 30lbs on my last cycle.."

I may have gained a TOTAL of 30lbs from when I first started AAS.. Of course, I'm talking about 30lbs LEAN.

What is the point in bulking up and putting on 20lbs of fat during a cycle when you are going to have to waste at least 10 weeks to get the fat off.. That's wasted time if you ask me.. You could have been off to another cycle by then..

I think you should eat during a mass cycle so that you gain AT MOST 1-2lbs of fat/month.

Damn Andy you must have a good eye cause you just hit the nail on the head. Stay away from the thought of eating whatever you want and in mass amounts unless you feel like dedicating alot of time to rid yourself of all the nasty, bouncing, blubbery bags of fat your gonna put on!:rolly: <you big rolly poley.

Wow!
Thanx for all the replys!
Thing is, I'm pretty big to start with, always have been. 6'1", 240-245/365 bench...
I have no problem putting on size and whenever I over eat just a little over a week or so, I get a big round stomach. At this point I've pretty much abandoned this whole "bulking" idea. I don't want to be a bigger version of my self, I want to be a bigger, harder, more quality version. I figure, if I can make strength and size gains on a lower than maintenance calorie intake than go for it, even if the experts are saying no.
I figure, add in some AS, a small amount of cardio and lift hard still and I should get an improved body.
What do you think?
I think if you're really thin and want to build some mass, then you should probably bulk the traditional way.
Also, if you're a chubby guy than maybe diet down.
I'm already pretty built, so I guess my requirements may be a little different.
I'm kinda building and leaning out at the same time.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing right now. I think I am going to go with Andy13's reply, try and gain LBM only even if it means I wont gain 30lbs from the gear. It will be less that I have to buy to cut up! ANyways....Good luck bro, keep us posted on your results:D

Cut your carbs back to 30% total caloric intake or less, up your protein to somewhere around 2 to 3 grams per pound of body wieght, light cardio two to three times a week, gotta watch that though. Eat clean, rest well, and train at least three or more times a week. Very simple.

I disagree.

Once your protein needs are met, the vast majority of your other macros should be carbs.. I would eat 10% or less fat.

Andy,
You seem to be saying things of substance and I value your opinions. Therefore, could you tell me what your height, weight, and bench are aprox.? What have you taken for gear? Do you believe that I'm making a smart decision to keep them calories under control, maybe not even maintenance on some days (for max. fat burning)? I know from experience that when I bulk...I BULK! Way too much. And I'm kinda big anyway so what I need is that solid mass only, I can't afford to let my gut keep getting bigger.
Anywayz,
Thanx bro!

Andy is right!! why BUlk...Cut..Bulk...cut... keep it clean, be smart and add quality weight...

guarantee, if you put on 5-7 lbs of lean mass on a cycle you will look a helluva lot better than if you put on 5-7 lbs of lean mass AND 8-10 lbs of fat!!!

The on your next xyxle youre to concerened w/ burning off the fat to gain muscle...

To me bulking cycles are jsut excuses to eat like shit and avoiod cardio... be true to your body!!

Exactly the way i feel bro. Couldn't put it better myslef. I could never imagine letting my BF% go as high as 20%, i would feel like shit.

lean mass

you know what that's good advice, because after a mass cycle most people try to get lean. So why not keep it lean in the first place. It would save allot of time!!!:fro:

Great posts Bros!
Much appreciated.
And now that 90% of us agree that keeping lean, even while trying to add size and strength, is most beneficial, I have another question;
How do you guys adjust your calories?
I've actually heard from some competitive bb in my area as well as writings by Mike Mentzer and others that you can actually do both!!! Build muscle and lose fat simultaneously! It would require strict attention to detail, never letting calories go too low or too high. Maintenance or even a bit less on most days. Only going over maintenance maybe once or twice a week (on heavy days maybe).
Have any of you guys done this?
Cause I don't have far to go in either direction to look the way I want to, but it seems when I eat big...I get a big gut. When I diet hard, I get weak and my muscles get flacid looking. It seems that if I could hit it on the head I'd be a happy man. It's a long way to go when you don't know where you're going.

I agree with eating clean but Andy>less than 10% from fat- you could take 1 tblsp of UDO's and almost reach that amount I'd say stick around 15% no higher than 20% and get your fats from good sources, mono, and ploy- unsaturated fats....steer clear from saturated fats.

What do you guys think of adding fina the last 4 weeks and clean up your diet,
= 4 week bulk+4week semi cuting ???

IF i was to do that i would probably make it a 12 week cycle. 6 bulk + 6 cut....i think that will give you body more time to adjust and you more time to reach your goal. IMHO.

great post guys, I'm a healthy eater but I was wondering what the best time to do cardio is on gear that is.
Empty stomach(first thing in the morning)
after a workout?
2-3 times a week?
Also if you do the little things you can have a cleaner diet. Don't shop hungry. Use mustard to mix with tuna not Mayo. Have a lot of fruit in the fridge, not in the draws though have the food visible. Use eggs white, yolks are full of fat. Drink diet pop. Prepare your food days in advance, I do all my cooking Sunday and just put stuff in the fridge and freezer, this is helpful when your hungry and lazy, keeps you away from the crap like pizza, BKand Mc Dicks.
The point is to get lean muscle not ugly fat, anyone can get fat.

:FRlol: :FRlol:

You see, there is this linear relationship between your intellectual capacity and you max bench...

the amount of fat you put on during bulking depends on your genetics, i have fast metabolism so i eat all kinds of crap, ice cream, burgers, fast food. my main concern is to get in 400g of protein and break 5000cals a day. However if you have a slow metabolism then you should minimize the amount of fat you injest, keep the carbs clean, maybe add some t-3. Most importantly take fat percentage measurements every week to see how your body comp is changing so you can adjust your caloric intake to compensate.

What do those figures have to do with Andys knowledge? Dan Dushane was not much of a physical speciment but he had much more knowledge about gear then anyone else

Well, I am not impressed with Andy. He has yet to answer a simple question like what is the best thing to take to clean your receptors. Geez, some help you are Andy. :)
