How do you feel about border control?

Do you think we should do anything about the 1 million illegal immigrants in this country? Or are you a proponent of the dont ask, dont tell philosophy? There seem to be many schools of thought on this issue. Of course I dont see this as the most pressing issue we face in this country right now, but it makes for interesting conversation. Anyone watch Chris Matthews this weekend?

there are 11 million illiegal imigrants, not 1 million...and I'm afraid it's a losing battle or those in favor of stricter border legislation.
 
The optimal word here is ILLEGAL. What don't people get about that? They are here illegally and should be deported, no questions asked. If they wanted political asylum, they should have crossed the boarder and requested it, not run and hide.

I think we need to increase the budget for border control significantly!

I normally do not get involeved in any political topics, but I feel very strongly about this. It maybe the biggest problem in the USA.

We have to STOP Canadians from coming to our country. :mad:

If the contractors who employ people "under the table" were prosecuted for doing so, and laws prevented people in the country illegally from receiving social welfare programs, the problem would disappear. I could care less if they were here illegally, just make sure they pay thier taxes and support the programs that are being leeched from.

I live in Southern Arizona and have to agree with you, because I see first hand what's going on. It's the human rights activists in the East (who have never been here and have no freakin clue) that are going to keep it from happening.
 
BTW - Border Patrol is hiring. Starting wage = $11 hour with all the shitty shifts (nights, weekends) for the first couple of years. For that kind of big money, what quality of people do you think they'll get?
 
If they want to wade acroos a river or walk across the desert to get here, at least they earned it
 
Legal Immigration worked for my Family coming in via Ellis Island.
If a dumb ass Wop can figure it out, It can work for anyone.

If they are willing to break OUR laws and come into our country illegally, then what does that (generally) say about their propensity to break other laws? Something to think about. And what about people in our country who HELP them break the law and get into the country illegally? What, if any, should the consequences be there?

I say lock the borders down ..if they want to come into the US and stay ...fine they can once they prove they would not be a burden on the tax paying people ...we have enough of our own freeloaders we dont need to import them


and as far as the jobs that " Americans wont do " then fine ..lets bring back the prisoner work program they can be really cheap labor

or how about people on welfare could do some of the jobs ...

yeah, my parents really went on a crime spree once they got here.
 
this issue goes way beyond just coming over to this country illegally.

I could write a 10 paragraph response but I'll break it down into a few major issues with them coming over here.

1. they are breaking a law coming here.
2. they do no not exist here on paper(no records)
3. since they do not exsit here, they do not pay income tax(or any tax other than sales).
4. they get fake s.s. cards and reap the beneifits of this country(welfare,food stamps,etc.)Yet do not pay taxes to keep the country running.
5. they send a large portion of their ernings back to mexico(not putting it back into the american economy)

This country is going to be rotted out from the inside if and when things keep going the way they are.

Nobody can hand dig a roadside trench in the August Fla heat like Mexicans...
Sometimes you gotta hand dig due to the situation vs using a machine.

While immigrants do send money back to their countries, they also spend a lot of money too. They eat, drive cars, buy tv's, stereos, go to the movies, buy clothes, etc.... Not only that but along with money, they also send tv's, microwaves, stereos, clothes, etc.. to their countries. Where dod you think they're buying all that, Mexico, Honduras?

There was actually a study done not so long a go that foudn that illegals profit the state/country far more than they allegedly "cost" i nterms of dollars (don't have a link to post).

Being a product of illegal immigrants (who are both now citizens btw) I cannot help but being a little biased about my thoughts on this subject. I think that we do need to do something about immigration, the resources here will only stretch so far, but I am not sure what. People like Y lifters family and most of your families that came here "legally" did so because the country needed cheap labor to exploit and were pretty much asking anybody to come, not because they went through this long process of trying to qualify.

I'll totally agree that "illegals" who commit crimes in the US should be sent back, and the same with anyone that leaches off the welfare system. But to say that they are all criminals ("illegal" immigrant aside) and are all leaches is ignorant.

My dad supported a family of six on a waiters salary and never received one welfare check in his life. I went to college on student loans, affirmitive action didn't do shit for me. Do my parents send money to Mexico? Sure, but they also own cars, a house and do the regular spending that everyone here does. Is it funny or sad when a family of ignorant, uneducated but hardworking wetbacks surpasses people that have been here for generations sitting on their ass and whining about not having the same chances as everyone else?

At one time Italians, Irish, Scottish, Eatern Europeans, etc.. where all despised by "Americans" too becasue these immigrants were poor, uneducated, didn't speak English and brought a high crime rate.

I have zero problems with people coming to this country to make a better life for themselves, my girlfriend if half croation/hispanic and her family are all from mexico, became citizens and have jobs where they pay taxes.

but Do it the right way and pay your taxes,support this country in every way(financial,community wise,etc) and stop draining the welfare,wic,medicade(whichever its called).
 
i think ugly and fat people should be kicked out of this country.

Yep, sometimes when the ground is wet you don't want to risk the trench caving in and burying one of your best machines.
