How do I use weight straps?

Been having trouble with certain exercises because of fatigue in my left hand - namely dead lift, shrugs, and side bends.

So I got these cotton straps - they seem to have a loop at one end. but I'm not sure how to best use them.

run the end of the strap through the hoop, now put your wrist through the other hoop you just made, pull the strap so its tight on your wrist, now take whats leftover from the strap and wrap it under the bar till its tight.

... then undo the strap and go work on your grip strength, otherwise you will have that fatigue in your left hand forever more...

agreed, use chalk if your gym will allow you........... if not, use the strap but only on the hand that needs it, and use it loose. then train the crap out of the grip so you dont need one anymore.

Right right. The grip is coming, but I don't see why I need to abort my deadlift sets just because my hand is weak.

Thanks.

No, you don't need to abort your deadlifts just due to a weak grip.

We would perform our higher rep sets w/out straps and our 1RM deads w/straps. At the end of every other back session or after a deads session, we also perform deadlift holds. We hold the weight for just three 30-second "sets".

This has all strengthened our grip to the point where we don't need straps anymore for deads. And once you see the size of my hands? You'll understand why grip strength is very important for me.

Also of note: when we really want to receive more direct work back work from deads, pulls, etc: we do use straps.

Just work with it and do what you have to do in the meantime to maintain deads in your training.

Slinky... what weight do you hold? A 5 rep weight a 10 rep weight... just curious. Grip strength is one of my weaknesses as well.

But seriously amigo :mexican: I didnt know how to use them properly for a long time. Once you get them on your wrists make sure the end coming out of the loop is opposite from youur thumb, on both hands. Then wrap the excess strap around the bar in such a way that you can tighten it with your hand by twisting. The excess end should go around the bar the opposite of the way your hand is facing so it tightens as you twist it. haha Hope that helps somewhat
