How do I train my girlfriend?

DaMan

New member
Ladies:

My woman just asked me to train her because she wants to "tone up". She just signed a contract with a modeling agency and will be typecast as the lingerie / swimsuit model, and NOT the fitness type. By that I mean she's a C-cup (natural) and her agency and I would like her to stay that way. From what I gather she just wants to firm her chest/triceps/ass etc., but is not going for that Janet Jackson hardcore sixpack look.

So pass on all the info you can... I'd love to hear your perspectives on this - should I push her to the absolute max? What kind of training split, how many reps per exercise, etc...? How is it different from working out with a bro? (technically I'll be training her, not working out with her). What muscles do girls really not give a damn about? (I assume she doesn't care too much about her lats and traps...)

Thx all.

PS - NO GEAR. She thinks I'm the devil for even taking Xenadrine, little does she know... :)

PS2 - Yes I did read the sticky "Men trying to help a female friend". That was mainly about gear though, so see "PS" :)

Why should her training be any different? If she isn't going to be taking any kind of anabolics then she isn't going to be building any massive muscles without a hell of a diet. The diet is the main thing you should focus on, when I go from 120 to 150 and from 150 to 112 and from 112 to 160, workout doesn't change at all, no different sets or reps or anything, it's all diet, so have her workout the same way you do (if you workout right ;) ) and the diet should be your main focus. Do a search on diets to get a general idea, everyone is different, everyone's diet is different, I could post mine for my leaning down, but it would most likely be totally wrong for her, so do a search and let's go from there :)

p.s. she isnt concerned with her lats, lol, that cracks me up, comeon, you have to train everything, you want an unbalanced body? :)

Brickgirl:

First off, if that's you in the pic, you have PHENOMENAL abs. I hope mine look half as good some day.

Second off, that is NOT the look she's going for... And she's got the diet down very well and does more than enough cardio.

You say that training should be no different than for guys... I was always under the impression that girls do more reps per set (say like 20) when they want to "tone", rather than the 6-10 guys do...

I guess I'm asking a slightly jaded audience because I assume the ladies on this board have the same goal the guys do, namely to get as ripped as friggin' possible and probably a bit bigger in the process. I may be wrong, but whatever the case, that's not her goal.

Let me be more specific. Right now she has a body a bit like Jessica Alba. The goal is one like Cindy Crawford. NOT one like a Nike model or a Ms Fitness competitor, but like a Victoria's Secret girl, which is what her agency will be submitting her for.

So keep bringin' on the tips... Appreciate all yours time :)

Females should not train like the typical gear using male does.....even if they are on a little juice. They should train more like a "natural" man with lower volume and more rest days but still with a good deal of intensity. They will over train unless they are pretty large doses of AAS if you train her like steroid using male.

I wouldn't worry about it too much since most females train smarter than most men anyway, with lower volume and more days off...that has been my observation in the past 20 years anyway.

Now if you yourself train with low volume and high intensity(4 -6 working sets per body part) with plenty of time out of the gym each week then she could do your workout almost exactly.

I think lats and traps are sexy.

Can't get lats that are too wide IMO but I have seen some sexy traps that have lost their appeal ....but this takes a lot of steroids.

I assumeyou're talking about that small portion of traps up by the neck that can look a tad freakish from the front?

I prefer that deep triangle, on either side of the spine, created by high traps at midback.

Ya, the upper traps .....generally the part that sweeps down into the upper mid back is always sexy.

DaMan, no offense but your post is full of myths about women training. I can't tell if you believe it or if you're just 'channeling' what your girlfriend thinks. At any rate, both of you should INHALE www.stumptuous.com/weights.html

Speaking as one who isn't trying to get ripped... Going 'all out' is how you transform your body. What does half-assing it get you? If she lifts hard, she's not going to wake up looking like BrickGirl (if it were only that easy!) - she has to want that to get that.

Come on, you don't believe that "toning" stuff do you? If she does, you have to disabuse her of that notion, FORTHWITH.

A question: How is weight training is going to help her go from Jessica Alba to Cindy Crawford? Crawford doesn't have any muscle tone. Neither do any of those VS models.

you might try a visit with a nutritionist so that she can pinpoint specifics if you are unsure about a diet. You can find one for like $50

A quality choke chain and a little perseverance.

But seriously, in my experience it can sometimes take a girl a bit longer to recover from a workout. Also, her hip size can cause a balance issue while doing squats. Other than that, she will not get big under any circumstances. (well, under one circumstance)

here´s a link to some pics of my girlfriend. We´ve been training together for some 3 years now.

i train with my bf and its works out great! we follow the same workout.. except i do more reps.. (12-15) (very intense) and much less weight ofcourse.. hehehe:)

get her a chick trainer that knows her shit(perf---bisexual-female) if your going to train "with"your girl make sure you wear headphones...peace:)

Wannabe - I am assuming he meant that girls talk too much so you have to wear headphones so you don't hear them talk. Niiiiice.

it was a joke ladies---but if anyone of you tell the truth you would know where I'm coming from. Not all ladies train hard like you all----just take look around in your gym and you'll the joke..however their are probably more guys sitting a bench shooting the shit then women....peace...

I'm actually the one that wears the headphones and my husband is the one yabbering. I am always having to turn it down to see what he's saying. And he talks in the middle of a set too. I see his lips moving but I pretend I dont.

Oh a joke, now I get it....then I apologize to you wombat for assuming you were serious. Forgive me - dealing with a natural blonde here....

And yes, every gym has those women you sit around and talk. Men can be bad too, though. I hate my gym - seems like I am always surrounded by people like that.

A couple of weeks ago at the gym, this guy was running his mouth NONSTOP to a woman who was clearly very serious about getting her session done. He leaned on the machine next to where she was and just jakked, jakked, jakked. She responded a few times and was nice, but she didn't stop working for a SECOND to give him her undivided attention. I don't know if he was trying to pick her up or if he was just obnoxious.... He told her about his wife and she mentioned her husband and kids - so if he was trying to pick her up, he was STILL obnoxious.

LMAO yeah Janet Jackson is hardcore as shit

and brickgirl.... shit. I hope to EVER be nearly as ripped and im a fooking guy

Actually I have the same question. My girl trains with me and I am using the 5x5 method, heavy and intense. She does pretty much the same with sometimes higher reps. She also wants the "fit" body, pretty much like the first guy was talking about. Personally I think model Laetitia Casta has the most perfect female body I have ever seen and I dont think she even works out...in fact allot of modelling agencies consider her to be "fat"- so rediculous!!
Anyway, like you guys said, you would have to WANT to be super muscular as a women, it dosen't just happen so I dont think my girl will see huge muscular gains anyway unless that is what she wants. I guess I will have her stick to what she is doing with maybe do higher reps than me- 10-12??

i was waiting for someone to say that! theres a girl at my gym who only does the cardio classes and pilates. she's afraid of getting bulky. i keep trying to tell her she needs to add weight training, but it always falls on deaf ears

:lmao:
I don't trust nutritionists. My lifting coach has a nutritionist set up his diet - he e-mailed it to me & it's half protein shakes & doesn't include veggies. I surely hope he merely neglected to type up the veggies, rather than that genuinely reflecting what he eats!

Anyways - a GREAT article to totally eradicate the "I don't wanna get big" bullsh* is http://ideafit.com/ftwomen.htm (it's actually pasted as a sticky on this board - but it's good to send the link to people who want to read it).

If she STILL thinks she can get big - bet her that she can't. She'll lose the bet, but win in that she'll get a nice hard body.

I like your rationalization there, Arioch, but unfortunately the fiber doesn't transfer from veggie to cow to the Lord of Chaos.

However, I'm sure you manage to keep things moving through your colon by sheer force of will & thus don't need the fiber. ;)
