How do I rate?

Gents,

I just started legitimate powerlifting I benched 450lbs and I know I could have done more. I deadlifted 600lbs, and that was most certainly my max at the time. I didn't squat because I pulled my groin about a month ago, but I know I can get high 500's.

I am 6' 255-260lbs with years of lifting experience, but no formal powerlifting training. I've researched some routines, but there is a ton of data and alot of it is contradictory. I won't ask for a routine, I will just do what I can figure out and what makes sense.

I just wanted to say that I'm encouraged by my initial lifts and wanted some feedback about what "competitive" is on state and national levels. In other words, how much do I need to lift to call myself competitive or not even bother showing up?

I'm stationed in Baghdad, Iraq so I have a gym and decent equipment. I have to say that I'm having a great time lifting heavy and so far all my joints have held up pretty good.

I've read most of the West Side articles and a few others. Can someone recommend a good site for novice type training. I think my form is good, I just need to know the best ways to get stronger.

Thanks, Gentlemen.

At 260, you would be in the 275 class. Add your three lifts (450+600+5??)= 1500-1600 (depending on what your "high 500's" squat is) that would make you a Class1, possible Master with your total

totals:
Elite 1946
Master 1786
Class1 1598
Class2 1411
Class3 1229
Class4 1075

Thanks. Just switched from BBing to PL type workouts. I love it. I'm stationed in Baghdad and the PL competitions here are the only thing keeping me sane. Just gotta get my workouts straight. I went too heavy at first and blew out my elbows and shoulders...
