As far as being sick and missing workouts.
Some rest can be a good thing. With the 5 x 5, adding weight to the major lifts every week, it can be a lot on your body, CNS etc. Proper rest is as important as the lifts themselves. If you're sick your body is telling you you need some rest.
In the long run missing one day is not going to hurt you.
With the 5 x 5 every day has a purpose. Friday sets you up for the monday's PR, wed is the medium day.
Missing a friday in week 2 isn't all that bad as you know you can make week 3's weights. You can either go back and repeat week 2, or if you feel up to it, lift week 3's weight's today. It all depends on how you feel.
Witht he 5 x 5 you will get to know your body, you'll be able to decide what to do in situations like this. But typically, being concervative always pays off in the long run.
