How Come Most People Are In A Rush To Get Ripped???

THE BOUNCER

New member
WHY IS IT THAT MOST PEOPLE ARE IN SUCH A RUSH TO GET RIPPED, BUT DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT GETTING BIG? IT USED TO BE THAT GETTING BIG WAS THE WAY TO GO. NOW ALL PEOPLE WANT TO DO IS GET RIPPED. I COMPETE AT A NATIONAL LEVEL AND GETTING RIPPED IS A NECESSITY DURING THE RIGHT SEASON. IN THE OFF SEASON I BALLOON ALMOST UP TO 300 LBS AT 6'1. TO BE HONEST THAT IS MY HAPPIEST TIME. WHEN I AM CUT UP FOR A SHOW I FEEL LIKE SHIT. THE POINT I AM TRYING TO MAKE IS THAT YOU HAVE TO BUILD A STRONG SOLID FOUNDATION AND EVEN PUT ON SOME FAT, THEN CUT IT ALL UP. TO BE HONEST I ONLY STAY RIPPED ABOUT 4 1/2 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR. THE REST OF THE TIME I AM CONCENTRATING ON HOW MUCH QUALITY MUSCLE I CAN GAIN FOR THE NEXT SHOW.

chicks dig, gotta be 90% of woman are into the guy who is 5-12% bodyfat, being 300lbs is fun, but being 220 gets tail

Must be those underwear ads! F#ck ripped ! I want my flesh armor to be as big as possible!Well.....cut is okay but I do not like being under 9% bf I feel like shit!

There's no doubt being 300lb. is fun and the happiest weight you'll be. But like said earlier, chicks dig the ripped dude at 220lb.

A quote from a wise man that will help clear this question: What's the Golden Rule? The guy with the gold rules! - meaning, its really not how ripped or big you are, its the guy that has the fat pocket book gets all the chicks. That's why I say, get big as fuck.

F** THAT!

Im looking for a quality Chick that DIGS MASS!! not no bitch that wants to change you all the time..

(Get big or Get the Fuck out..)

I can see the hard work.

I love being big, dont get me wrong, but if I go above 9% I smooth out so much that I can't see all the results from that last training phase.

I range between 6%-15%, and to be honest I prefer being around 8% because I look alot larger when the dimensions and general details are showing. My biceps have a higher peak when the bodyfat isin't filling in the spaces around my delts, and the greater v-taper helps the impression that much more. I still get large in the offseason, but I can't wait ( WEIGHT;) ) till I can walk around 300 lbs. plus reguardless of my condition.

P.S. I was raised italian, so dieting will never be fun, but I chose to be a bodybuilder, and so I do the best I can with what Ive got. Anyway, there will always be another offseason eventually.:D

I don't get it either. The question was answered in this post though. As expected the majority to reply thus far said for the chicks. There is undoubtidly two different schools the bodybuilding. Those who are serious bodybuilders with ambitions to compete, not only on stage but with themselves. And then there is the ideology of doing it not for ones self, but for others. In my opinion the thoughtless and unrespectable route. This is the very idea that separates the hardcore form the men's health wanna be's...always has been that way. Some want to be massive. For competition purposes and for self satosfyong purposes. Others shallowly want to please others so they do it not for them, but for others. These are the edema-phobics. These are the ones who are afraid to be huge quite honestly. They fear how others will view them. I love the feeling of huge as you do as well. I'm no happier than when I'm fully bulked. Sure the abs arn't there but the ego is. The thrill is. The pride of my accomplishments are grand. Not everyone has the nuts to get massive basically. Not everyone has the ability to look past the "I do it for the chicks" mentality and dig deep within to find the guiding light to do it for themselves. Not everyone wants to be huge or to compete. But for those of us that do strive for elite status as competitive bodybuilders anything less than 110% effort is unimaginable. Anything less than pusing the limits is simply out of the question. It's a fact you must make grand sacrifices to achieve a massive physique. The scariest sacrifice for most to make is giving up the though of ripped abs and the consequence of having the "chicks" think you're a freak. Some can look past what the ladies want. Some do it to fullfill a personal agenda. To compete with ourselves and our limits. I don't understand when some 180 pounder is trying to get ripped. It simply baffles me to no end. Why? Because obviously or goals and ideas are completely opposote. Our notions of bodybuilding are worlds apart. Seems like everyone wants to be huge but they arn't willing to make the sacrifices to get to that state of being. I hate dieting but in all honesty I'm incredibly good at it. Cutting is easier than bulking without a doubt in my mind. True mental toughness is needed to attain the coveted mass.

Fuck being 220lbs ripped and getting chicks. At 300lbs you can grab any girl you want by her hair with one hand and still have your other hand to hold your club just like the cavemen. Then walk into a bar and grab any guy you want by his hair and throw his ass across the room:D :D Why have one when you can have the best of two worlds. Well if you didn't know I am one of those 225lbs ripped(well almost ripped) guys but I am working to that 300lbs caveman;) ;)

Scsufootball84 lol

Ripped for chicks, plus I'm the other way around, I don't feel good at higher BF% at all. I feel more lethargic.

Since I've always had the wireframe build, I'm only at 170 at 6"3" I feel big, even though in reality I'm No where near big.

Though as I get older I feel I'll want to get more massive just so I can eat more at maintenaince Yum yum.

The best quote i ever heard was from a body builder friend I had who helped me get into body building, He said "Back in the Day, Man used to be muscular, big brutes, but soon technology came around. Then man stopped working out his body and started using his mind, he started to get smaller and work on his body less. You've got to get big man, You could have all the money in the world, but if there's a guy bigger than you, He'll fuck your girl. Donald Trump has alot of money, but if his girl meets a bigger good looking guy, he'll definitely fuck her."

its summer, ripped is in.when swetter time rolls around its time to pack on 20- 30lb.im around 225 at 6ft and 8%.i hate dieting but i love the attention from the ladies.sure 300lb would have its advantages but thats to freaky for me.250 and ripped is my goal after that its just gona be to maintain.

What freakazoid just said...very subtly and perhaps unknowingly is the biggest difference and the reason some are always trying to cut up. "It's summer, ripped is in". For most summer is thier competition...There is no stage or other legit competitors. The beach is the stage and the other beer chugging ass grabbers are the competition. For the other school of thought, the hardcore bodybuilder, this is not the case. We cut when we have to...for a show. Not for the beach. Two different trains of thought. The competitive bodybuilder diets out of necessity...the "recreational lifter" diets to impress a different set of judges. These judges don't take mass into consideration like on sitting in front of the stage. Most feel they have to be cut at all times to impress so they simply never take the time to build significant mass. In thier minds summer is always right around the corner or it's here. And one must be shredded come summer.

i respect the "hardcore bodybuilder" but i really dont have a desire to become massive,i pack on weight fairly easy 4 years ago i was around 180.i have managed to pack on about 10 quality lb per yr.even when i come off juice i rarely ever go under 210.i work my ass off in the gym sure with more juice and more cals i could be a hell of a lot bigger but for the most part i feel like shit at a higher bodyfat.

I'm with ya Beezers! Great post!

Hell, I'm married anyway.... and my wife likes be BIG.... says that I look sick when I'm cut down

I gotta agree get big or get out.....yeah I'll cut up when I'm preparing for a comp...but I don't plan on my first comp getting here for another 2 years....so I'm bulking like madd for the next 2 years so by the time I do cut..I'll be able to cut to about 240ish...which would be oh sooo nice :) But yeah I do it for myself though.....I like being huge...your stronger than anyway...and I like the strength.....and I know how big I am...that's what counts, well I like being big...just my input.......

i love being large

why is it people give u shit when you aren't cut? im talking about people who don't
know crap about lifting or your lifestyle. they think if you aren't cut year round you
are lazy or something. i love being big, i love the strength. when the times comes and i
can get cut and still be huge, i will get cut. until then im gonna add mass.

I don't really have much respect for guys in the gym who are just "Big"....almost anyone can eat excess calories/retain water and look big.....being lean while still muscular shows way more discipline and hardwork in my opinion

I bulk eight months out of the year. One month before summer, I start to train to get ripped and drop the fat. If I'am heavy in the summer, and holding lots of water and fat, I sweat way too much, so I try to lose all of it for the summer. Plus I feel better being cut when my shirt is off. Just what I like, but I can see how people like staying lifting heavy.

if you big guys like to stay high bodyfat yearround, have at it but there are some of us that want to be big and cut.i dont want to just be a big strong guy with 20+ bodyfat.but thats just me and what i am comfortable with.

Being big is GREAT. Mike Matarazzo at 285lbs and 5' 9'' is pretty awsome. But he still had a decent 6 pack. If your 285lbs with 50lbs of body fat your just a BIG FAT GUY. Bulking up is not supposed to be about how much you weigh, it's about putting on as much muscle as possible not as much weight. If your belly giggles your fat... sorry. :(
Their is alot of room between ripped and "bulked", but a bodybuilder should try to keep it under 12%.
At 10% you will still look very good at the beach, and come contest time you'll loose less muscle getting ready than the guy that has to drop down from 15%+ bf.

Balance

I think ultimatly it's all about balance. When it comes to AS, there are too many people who are trying to find a short cut to the short cut.

My plan this season was to run two cycles. A bulking cycle to put on the quality muscle and size I want followed by a cutting cycle to show off my hard work for the summer (Yes, it's for the ladies).

Either way, it's a matter of opinion, but to be honest I want to be big and shredded! :)

this is my take on it
once you get ripped i think you see all that lean muscle and want to stay that way to a certain extent,- you worked hard to get there and you dont want to lose it! that being said, i think you can add quality mass to that ripped pysique, probably just not as much as you desire each time. i myself want to be as big, but also as lean as possible . i dont want to look in the mirror and see BLOATBOY lookin back.

peace:D

I think it all depends on what your goal is. There are guys who just want to be big and don't care how lean or ripped they are. Others want the lean look with some mass. However there are those whos goals keep changing, i.e. want to keep getting bigger. So when does it end? When is one happy with hteir size?

So I think the answer to the question is PREFERENCE!
Personally I like to be lean all the time. I figure if can't take off my shirt at any time in public and be proud, then what's the point.

Remember one thing: no matter how big you are there is always somebody bigger then you!!!!!!

I dont think there is an end. One cycle leads to another in the quest to get bigger/ripped. A lot of people have a complex where no matter how good they look, they think they look like shit.

It may be hard to believe, but a lot of ripped mofo's are scared to take their damn shirt off!

I agree Suspension and I got a few friends of mine like that. They wear loose clothes, dont; want to show their. Meanwhile they got a great physique.
I think the it's critical to set a goal and be happy with yourself once you reach it and just keep maintaining it.
If there is no end then getting big becomes an obsession and complex.

For me I like the ripped look because it gets more attention from chicks. Yes, I admit I do for the attention from the chicks. Not to do them or anything - happily married.

No, I do it because I was a skinny little sucker in Jr High and High School and even though I was damn good looking for a skinny guy ;) I was still a boney skinny guy. So I didn't get the good looking cheerleader chicks like the cut up musclely jocks did. But now most of them suckers are fat slobs and I get the attention now. And I can't wait to go to my 20 year ruinion cut up to the max and show those pricks and the chicks up that wouldn't give me the time of day in high school.

Am I shallow or what? :D

So if you consider me lifting for the chicks from what I explained, then I am lifting for the chicks.

I hear you man. You must get a bit fat and bloated to improve. The thing that sucks is most people do not look very good to woman when they are fat and bloated. In addition to the body not looking as good your face gets round and puffy which looks like shit. The reason people want to be lean is to get laid, period! If I didn't compete I would try to walk around ripped all the time too.

Dude it's summer chicks like the tan lean look.I myself need to cut 30lbs myself not that I don't like being 220lbbut i'm only 5'5 and I look like fckin mr stay puff. It's A bitch to cut the weight though.

i think getting ripped is a quicker and more realistic goal than getting big. when i first started working out, i always wanted a six pac. In the long run, i learned the hard way. Take your time and get big first. But everyone wants that brad pitt look...then again not everyone:D
