How closely are you supervised at work?

My boss rarely comes to see what I'm doing. I hardly ever see her or get emails from her. She sits down the hall from me but she's so damn busy all the time.

On the other hand, I watch the people working for me in my dept. like a hawk. I know what they are doing every second of the day. All 25 of them. I can see how long their phone is ringing, how long they've been on a call, how long they have been in the bathroom, etc. I'm all over them like white on rice. I run a call center so its the nature of the beast so to speak. But, in growing weary of babysitting grown adults.

not really at all
My father is a PITA sometimes but I just tell him to STFU

little do your employees know that they could gain 5-10 minutes of freedom by distracting you with snackalicious items.

I could never function in that kind of environment. my boss often doesn't come in, and when he does, it's around 1 or 1:30. he's super laid-back and doesn't even know what we're doing much of the time. however, i do sit in his office...his desk is 10 feet behind me. at first, i hated that, but it's actually interesting, because peeps are coming in to talk about this and that...sometimes you hear some interesting company shit, etc. better to learn, or take advantage.

i work from home whenever i need to, etc...lots of flexibility. of course, it's not enough, because i'm a malcontent who hates everything, and i think about quitting all the time.

but still, it's a good situation, relatively speaking.

for the last 15 years, very litle supervison as i had a "rotating" supvervisor to cover 3 different site locations. he would make a token appearance and then be "in transit" and unfindable. fine with me!

about a month ago, upper management, in their unfathomable ways, deceided to create 5 new supervisors.

now each location has a supervisor on duty, former co-workers suddenly trust into management who think the "work world" now revolves around them, telling employees with more years on the job than they have what to do.

after a few EEO grievances the new pencil necks will calm down some... :lmao:
