How can we improve.....

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
This is my favorite board on Elite. I truly feel that this is the board which stands to help everyone the most with their goals...TRAINING.

I notice that we get tangled up in debate, opinions, and calling BS on people a little to often on this board. When we do that we tend to not only run off the new members of this board but the veterans tend to leave too.

I would like to see everyone sit back, relax, and take every single post for JUST what it is...an opinion. We don't all post pics and tell everyone our REAL name on here, so we must take everyone's word for who we are, what we look like, as well as what works for us.

We all have different goals in mind and we all get them from doing something differently. None of us have done the same things all of our careers, we have evolved in our training methods. We all had opinions about AAS use as well as the Weider Principles when we first started...and our opinions change over years.

I want us to think as to how we can improve this board to be something better than it already is. I would like to see more of the Vetrans come back and help all of us out. I would like to see NY Muscle, WIDELAT, Cornholio, Arioch, Hannibal, Spatterson, PowerlifterJay, Wodin, flexed1, Buld0g, Saint808, etc....to come over here and be a part of our board more often. Several of them come here on a frequent basis, but I'd like to see them post more often...

We are blessed to have a very open environment to post in, where everyone can express their opinions. Not everyone can express their opinions without being flamed. A good flaming is ok from time to time...but I have seen a lot of it get way out of hand lately (I know I have done it before) and it gets us nowhere.

Lets get this board to growing again...with lots of new information. I'll start by sending a few PM's around to people that I'd like to see on this board more often as well as trying to make a post of my own once daily (with useful informaton in it...lol...change for me I know).

Any other ideas???

B True

If someone posts a W/O or an Idea that you don't agree with, that's OK.

In your response, you should START the reply with:
WHAT WORKS FOR ME IS......and then your sugguestion or alternative view.

Not a reply of WTF are you talking about you dumb Ass

This way you get your views heard and it allows the EF members to try both and see what works for HER/HIM, or to think you are full of BS in private..

How can you argue with someone you don't know and have never even seen?

Thanks Fold

I agree...
Learning new things is a lot more interesting than reading people yapping at each other...
If opinions differ... so be it... just don't resort to name calling..

I agree b-fold, this is the board I frequent most, but sometimes I just can't deal with the crap on here, and sometimes I know I get caught right up in it. As this is about training, and there are very few "for sures" in bodybuilding/weight training, everyone is more than welcome to express their opinion, and intelligent debate is great as it makes you re-think what you think you know. It is annoying when people come here and and state their opinion like it's gospel, but I for one know I need to be more tolerant.

I think it would really help to have some mods that actually hang out here on a regular basis. As I have no life right now and am here all the time, I of course volunteer myself, but there are some other knowlegable bros that are here all the time and have the right temperment to help push this forum in the right direction (b fold for one)

B True, as I've said, I would moderate the hell out of this board. The level of respect is hideous, and it seems that various methods can not be discussed without someone feeling "attacked." What we run into here is a gathering of PL/OL/Strongperson/BB/Fit/Fig methods, and many of them conflict greatly. PL's get called idiots when they inform BB's that they bench with their lats/tris/shoudlers...yet this is true.

It's OK for one thing to work for one person and not for another. It's OK to be open minded...to CONSIDER someone's stance without subscribing to it.

Don't get me started on the waste of bandwidth...a.k.a. TROLLS.

We could afford to be ALOT more objective.

On a more positive note, those that do contribute in a positive and constructive manner, that influences and encourages critical thought, do so VERY well, and I enjoy their insight.

Definately need an agressive moderator(s). Simply sending warnings to people that cross the line would be helpful. People who continue to do so should get booted off.

Unfortunately, I don't think we can change people's attitudes or demeanors(high school is out for the summer). But we can have a mother or father figure around to slap the kids when they get out of hand.

Good parenting, thats all the board needs:)

I have a bad rep already - I'll moderate

...actually I think it ashould be FOld

I believe that everyone that posts on this board can start to be pro-active in this situation. We can think before we post, and think about how it will come across.

I do feel that we shouldn't have to lock a thread, close one, etc...if we all send a nice PM to anyone who is causing problems here on Elite. Maybe asking someone in private, not calling them out, is the answer to keeping this board on the positive side. Maybe.

I will do my best to keep a calm head, especially on this board. Training, as well as learning is too important to me to let a board such as this one die so fast.

I'm relatively new to this board and agree in what b-true says. What can be interesting posts end up being unread because more tension is felt.
In my opinion is all about attitude... let's try to be positive
towards others opinions. This board can be really nurturing and we can learn a lot from others.
Having open mind and think about others contribution can really be very beneficial to everyone.

i guess i am part of the reason you posted this. i came about it in the wrong way trying to prove a point. and i did prove a point. but i was acting stupid calling peoples names. sorry

It takes a big man to be able to apologize sometimes, there are a bunch of us that need to take some ownership of the crap that went on in that thread

We all have something in common. . .we love to train. I enjoy reading what everyone has to say. There is a wide variety of knowledge and personal experiences that are shared, which is great!! After reading posts, I am ready to hit the gym with extra motivation and determination to build a stronger physique. You guys are firm believers in staying with the basics. I like that Keep up the good work guys!!!

Here is what I don't like about this board:

People who brag about doing drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or ecstacy also while they train. I cannot respect these folks as they are ruining their health. These are bonefide losers in my book. It is an oxymoron to mention drug abuse along with training.

Why is that? This is the kind of personal attack we don't need.

I don't see how it is justified. Care to explain?

Doesn't sound like a personal attack to me, he didn't mention names, and that talking about recreational drugs has absolutely no place on a training board anyway

I think if you're gonna talk about recreational drug use, talk about it on a board thats not meant for training. My 2 cents.

In terms of posting that here, no it's not appropriate.

'Doesn't sound like a personal attack to me"

How would you feel if insulted steriod users? Same sorta thing.

-Zulu

The use of AAS is rarely every brought up here.

This is a board in which we discuss training methods, what works, what doesn't, and how we can help each other. I am not for sure where any other types of posts can be seen as a benefit. If a question needs to be answered...ask it...no matter what it is.

We just need to get rid of trolls and those making personal attacks upon others. I understand that eveyone makes attacks (I have sunken to doing this towards Cornholio before) and it was a horrible thing for me to do. I feel that my attacks towards them may have been one of the main reasons they do not post here as often...maybe not.

Think before you post...I will try my best to do the same.

It's not the same thing though, as steroids directly relate to training, where recreational drugs don't. Most info related to gear should be on the anabolic forum, but there is some relevance here as well. For example, I trained naturally for ten years before trying gear, so I know a lot about natural training. But now I've been cycling for a year, so I've developed a decent knowlege base on that as well. Knowing the differences in the way I train on or off allows me to offer my advice opinion on natural as well as "enhanced" training. But I've endured many attacks on the training board for my use of gear, I generally don't take it personally as i feel that after 10 years of natural, I earned the right to take my body and training to the next level.

Okay, I think I got a little off topic there, but my point is, there is relevance for some steroid discussion on this board.

B, you are probably one of the best natured, easiest going guys on all of elite, so the fact that even you have slipped and sunk to that level says enough, the key is to be able to take ownership for it when it happens. Mods notwithstanding, us, the regular posters on here are the ones that create the atmosphere on this board, so if there is a negative under tone, which there is, then we need to own that, then fix it!

I think recreational drugs do relate to training.

Some elite athletes use stimulants [such as cocaine] before maximum attempts.

Arnold was known to smoke marijuana after lifting [the specifics of which escape me].

What board should questions about drugs/alcohol be asked on?

My main problem was with this statement:

'These are bonefide losers in my book. It is an oxymoron to mention drug abuse along with training."

Seems to me it's the sort of thing we want to avoid. Maybe not.

-Zulu

So if guys want to discuss those drugs and how they relate to training, then so be it, but all the comments i've seen about rec drugs have been in a completely different vein of thought.

Plus, steroids bring enough negative attention to this board as a whole, but the authorities place a much higher emphasis on going after those that use or sell recreational drugs
