How can I get more protein...

Im 16 at 150 pounds, and I really dont understand how i can get 150 grams of protein a day. I cant do legs yet so I'm not that hardcore of a lifter so I might not need that 150, but if I did, how the hell are you supposed to get that much? I mean in the morning ill get like 10, my roast beef sandwich for lunch another 25, a burrito when i get home 12, dinner (changes) like 20, and then a 20 gram protein shake...a total of about 90....

That's tough for you? Man, I get 309 a day. I'm 17 at 175.5 lbs. Protein powder, tuna, chicken breasts, cottage cheese, eggs. My sources of protein. Steak if I decide to be unpoor for a day.

Why can't you do legs?

jbox, maybe you have to make some changes in your diet.
Like Tom, I can get 300 gr. easly from real food: fish, chicken breast, red meat.
If you want to stick to your diet or you can't change it, you can add some whey prot powder. Two scopes a day will give you about 50 extra gr of prot.

Dude, you have to hit those legs right now !!

Cheers.

I agree with the above bro. I never had a problem workin' out my legs. I personally would concentrate on a nice weight, heavy but nothing real crazy yet, but mainly worry about your FORM, get in to good habits now. Put together a good workout schedule and stick to it. Protein should be an easy thing nowadays with all the stuff out there, eat a protein bar, and you can grab 20 to 25 grams, etc.. Good Luck bro.

Your body needs prot from real food !
I would recommend Whey as a fast absorption - low cal/carb/fat complement ... Never as a replacement of whole meals.

Are you in a diet or something?
What did you read to end pushing like 7 scopes of Whey per day?

You don't need whole food. I believe the protein powder is considered whole food anyway, just ground up into powder. Either way, as long as you get the right amount of calories and macronutrients, you're okay.

no im eating alot of protein also i just want too make the maximum gain in two months possible. im wanting to bulk up so i can get a job as a doorman/bouncer in september when i start college.

the whey is just to give me more protein cause eating all the time isnt easy

Irish, do you see all the stars and green dots by the name of this fella? ^^^
Then don't listen to me, 150 gr whey it's ok ! :D

But I disagree with your opinion Tom.
Anyway, if you are eating protein from food it should be ok.

Protien powder as a complament to food is fine. And if your bulking 3 protien shakes are ok as long as your eating food as well. Go to the store and look at the back of a bag of chicken breasts or lean red meat or a can of tuna you can 150 grams easy with food you just have to eat the right things to do it, then throw in 2 or 3 protien shakes in between meals you will hit 150 fast.

1) why can't you do legs?

2) at 16 you don't need "more" protein, what you need is a healthy lifestyle to keep you active and going until about 20. Try adding nuts and legumes to your diet as well as some natural-hormone-free milk, and don't forget the eggs/fish and lean meat.

Where would one get "natural-hormone-free" milk, Mr. X?

Trader Joe's - it's Called Organic and Hormone Free milk (yes some organic milk can have hormones) - make sure it's from grass fed beef.

Also, look for it in your local wholefood or natural foods market.

so its ok for me to be eating plenty of red meat chicken, fish aswell as my breakfast, lunch and dinner and 150g of protein from whey shakes

i cant do legs yet until i get the right equipment, by the way are those things where you sit down on the bench and just lift your legs up using those attached leg lifter things any good? my friend sais they arent, but I really dont have 400 bucks to spend on a proper squat rack deal.

anyways, since i have school i dont really want to come home and eat 3 protein shakes, or a bunch of those bars eather. we have chicken for dinner usually though, my roast beef for lunch, a steak/chicken burrito when i come home...

ive always had kind of a bad feeling about those bars and powders anyway, it seems like if you want to get some meat on you, you got to eat meat, not powder. can someone explain this to me real quick (cus im pretty sure the powder does help if everyone using it).

but anyways, since im not doing legs would like 120 grams be alright? remember im only 16, and 150 pounds.

and mr. x you seem experienced so how come at 16 I dont need more protein, do you think my 90 or whatever is alright? by healthy life style should i go jogging or something and not eat bad foods (which i rarely do anyways, my family has always never allowed chips and all that stuff in the house)? and what will these nuts do?

god im annoying sry

Don't worry bro, we all started where you're at :) Your protein intake is more dependant on your goals than your age. Are you trying to add lean mass or cut? I'm assuming the former so I'd say 150-200 g protein a day would be good. Sounds like you're eating alot of really crappy carbs, you might want to cut back on that and add in some more lean meat. Write down everything you eat for a day including calories, carbs, fats and protein and post up so we can critique.

Try having scrambled eggs in the am -- easy & quick to whip up (and cheap!!). You can usually get eggs on sale for .08 - .11 cents per egg.....like at Costco or your local supermarket...or get the egg sub. in cartons (these can be frozen)

A can of tuna or can of chicken (breast of chix) is an easy portable way to get in your protein....

Oh and you can do legs with any equipment, anywhere!! Gawd, I'll show my age with this one, but I used to do squats with a broom handle with a jug of water tied to each end!! Or I just held a can of V8 juice (the big can) in each hand or the jug of water or sand in each hand.....
