4.4 for a running back is about as fast as you are going to get and ANY level. Sure there are some that run 4.3 and rarely a 4.2, but 4.4 would turn heads for a RB, especially in High School...He would outrun 99% of the people on the field.

Dunno what you are smokin. 4.3 is very common on both sides of the football anymore. 4.2s are happening more and more.

Its decent speed, but its not considered "fast" anymore. Unless its a linebacker, which there are many who do indeed run a 4.4

Well considering my father is an NFL scout and I accompany him on many an excursion and I was a former Division I QB and college football coach I know a lot about it mind you.

Props to Cynical Simian on the link. 4.4 is and always will be impressive.

You just proved my point. 3/4 of the backs on that list are 4.4s. Thats my point. Its a STANDARD anymore. 4.3s and under is the new standard for "damn fast"

If your pops is an NFL scout then he prolly knows that...

The Vick bros are 4.2s....

Darren Sproles is a low 4.3, has turned a few 4.2s... but consistent 4.3

Two Denver Bronco linebackers are listed as low 4.4s

Just saying 4.4 is pretty standard unless you are a HUGE back like Dayne, etc.

Runningbacks are supposed to be a faster position, so, in turn... 4.4 is faster than most posistions.... but is pretty standard for the position itself.

Please read the link more carefully. "Impressed" means GOOD. 4.4 is NOT a standard it is ABOVE the standard....hence the word "Impressed". You stated that 4.4 is not that fast, which is wrong. It is ok to be wrong sometimes...it is more noble to admit it.

The following running backs also impressed with their straight-line 40 speed:
Dan Alexander, Nebraska -- 4.41
Correll Buckhalter, Nebraska -- 4.50
Travis Minor, Florida State -- 4.44
Anthony Thomas, Michigan -- 4.54
LaDainian Tomlinson, TCU -- 4.42
Reggie White, Oklahoma St. -- 4.53

lmao. Dude, you are still proving the same point for me, and I thank you. If every single back runs a 4.4, how is it not a standard?

Or do you use a different dictionary?

Look, I don't really feel like arguing this with you anymore. It should be clear that, unless you're the type who believes the "I benched 350 last week but, uh, don't want to do it right now" guy at the gym, legitimate (run before a group of scouts at pro days and the combine) 40 times of 4.4 and below are considered fast for any position.

And, from the profile of some guy named Darren Sproles:
CAMPUS: 4.48 in the 40-yard dash COMBINE: 4.49 in the 40-yard dash
