my training partner wants to get smaller.
hes 183 cm, 110 kg, all muscle.
he have trained for a while.
hes 40 now...strted when he was 19.
ripped 6pack, pretty vascular.

i would do anything to have the body he has so i think hes nuts but anyway.....he wants to get smaller.
hes always saying "i would lie to loose 10-15 kgs"
so how can he train to loose muscle?

ive said that he could try to do more sets, more reps, and a lot of cardio. but thats it, dont know anymore.

he dont have a diet, he eats whatever he want.
he could aswell eat 3000 cals one day an 2000 the next day but still keep his size.

what can i suggest him to do?

that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Tell him to stop working out completely and take up a lifestyle of laziness. If he wants to stay fit, tell him to become a marathon runner.

Actually this is a big deal. Think of all the NFL players that need to downsize after their careers. There are trainers that specialize in this typ of thing.

Fred Dryer, Larry McCaren, Frank Winters, Merlin Olsen and many others have all had to go through this.

Yeah having too much muscle makes you less athletic. There is a fine line between athletic muscle, and unnecessary extra weight <good looks> muscle. Every huge guy on a muscle magazine with 4% body fat may get the chicks at the beach, but, all that muscle slows him down for any kind of true athletic performance in my opinion.

I'd suggest that he find a work out that caters towards a lean athletic build. Do cross-fit if you wanna lose the extra bulk but be lean and athletically superior. Try high reps, sprinting/fast mile times, swimming laps for speed. Anything that keeps your heart rate up.

Just cut calories! If he is already lean then he doesn't have to worry about just keeping fat. Ive gone from 175 with probably 7% bf to 135 with probably about the same amount of bf, but I didn't ever do this on purpose. The only problem with this is the muscle comes back just as quickly as it came off and it doesn't take long. Afterwords I would suggest switching to a very high rep range with a lot of running, but most people never have to worry about gaining muscle. Also, drastically cutting calories from experience can get you hurt if you are still pushing up the same weight so I would suggest cutting back on everything except running.

yup lower amounts of food and more cardio type activities.. thats why runners are never bulky or swimmers... they burn all there energy and start tapping into muscle i believe. i think elementality nailed it

Start working out for a marathon and let the body eat the muscle away, thing is that if he is juicing even with all the cardio it would be hard. Probably a liquid diet would do this, but I don't think that size loss could be sustained for a long time. Ultimately if this is real goal he should quit weightraining as well.

its called strategic detraining, in lifting called deloading

bit its much more comprehensive and has to been done in a way that considers the whole year or even multiple years

I need more time to explain why
