How much should someone go up on bench press and tri. bi. legs etc. in say about 5 weeks with about a medium build and weighing in at 150 lbs. and working out very hard. I started about 4 weeks ago and i was wondering where i should be at now working very hard? I have worked out in the past about 4 months back off and on so i wasent and am not exactly week.

If people reply ill post everything i did and am doin so maybe i can get more advice and some help with stuff.

ok well i have gone up about 40 lbs on bench and about 60 lbs on tri. (rope pull down if thats the name for it with the rope on the cable machine) and about 35 lbs on bi. and i dont do legs much so i dont know about that but thats how much on upperbody and i just started working out back in the past week but i work out 4 hours a day cardio 1 hour abs 1 hour and then weight lifting the rest most people say this is to much and i was wondering if im going up enough on the wieghts and i hardly feel tired the next day from the work out.

I take it you are very new to lifting. Don't get used to going up 40lbs on your bench in the future. 5lbs in a month once you have been lifting for a long time can be decent. If you continue to workout 4 hours a day, you are in for some BIG problems(overtraining). You do an hour for Abs???? Your whole workout for weights for the day should be around an hour or so. If you want to gain muscle mass cut that dam cardio down to like 10 mins. I take it you are kinda thin at 150lbs, so cardio is not going to be your friend for strength/muscle mass. Ever seen a jacked marathon runner?? You are gonna burn out big time on that routine unless your name is Clark Kent.

At first your body responds like wildfire. A lot of the increased weight you lift comes from improved efficency in form and feel for the exercises. Your body is fresh and has a lot of development potential in the first few months. Any workout will stress your muscles and signal your body to grow. Overtraining won't happen too quickly as you CNS is so fresh. After awhile, you will need to adjust your workouts so you don't over or undertrain. You will see your progress slowly level off as time goes by(otherwise your bench would be over 400lbs higher by the end of the year ;) ).

Enjoy the new gains now, but be careful not to get into the more is better routine so many new lifters get into. Lifting 5 times a week does not mean you will gain more then the guy who does a 3 day a week workout(3 day will probably gain more). Learning your body is fun and frustrating. Don't give up when the super gains stop. If I had a dollar for every person who quit lifting after a couple months, I would be dam rich. Make your mind up to work out, set your goals and don't quit. Remember you don't build muscle in the gym, you simply stimulate your muscles there. The growth occurs during the rest AFTER and inbetween your workouts and you will need the right nutrition that your body needs to repair itself.

yes i know what u mean i have worked out for 7 months in the past and i could never get over 230 but i weighed 130 lbs so that aint bad i guess but right now im at 230 mabye more and going up really fast still around 10 lbs a week i plan on toning it down when i stop gaining as much but for right now this is good but i have good genes so hopefully that will help shoot my dad has never worked out since probly high school and he benches 320 lbs and he weights around 180 hopefully ill be there and better soon enough im guessing maybe ill gain 40 lbs at the most before hitting 5 lbs a month and thanks for the advice
