How about the gay marriage bans!?!?!

I think it's two major reasons.

Firstly, many many people have tied part of their personal identity to their marriage. "I'm so-and-so, husband, or so-and-so, wife." They feel that allowing gay people to be equal to them somehow diminishes their identity and they feel threatened.

But it ties into the second point, which is a lot of people just get really uncomfortable around gays. Two gay people getting married is a very public, in-your-face display which forces people to have to feel that discomfort.

So you're basically having people deny others rights because they 1) have low self-esteem and 2) feel uncomfortable. Sounds a lot like "colored only" water fountains to me.

I'm just waiting for a liberal judge to rule the bans unconstitutional

And the voice of reason chimes in from somewhere in the back. :wavey:

this is mute being marriage will never be sanctioned widely in this context, and even if it happens in some states, it will never be recognized by the church. I just think some things truly should be left the way they are, and yes the divorce rates sicken me and I wish EVERYONE wold take marriage more seriously

It's MOOT, not mute. Moot means irrelevant. Mute means unable to be heard. As for the church not recognizing it, just how many churches are there these days? Do you really believe that they will all do the exactly the same thing? They sure don't currently.

Under christianity it cannot be recognized, going against that is breaking off from christianity. whatever I mispelled while typing, you got the point

I'm going way in to left field here, but follow if you will. If your define the church as christianity then do you also base christianity on the bible? If so, are there not things that the bible proclaims that are not practiced or backed today by the church and/or christianity? If that is true, then has the church-under your blanket definition-not already broke away?

Can someone find the % of gay people who have been sexually abused in the past? That to me is learned behavior. I don't think being gay is a disease nor do I fight the fact that it COULD be genetic.

Civil Unions fine, Marriage NO.

Should read the fine print on your voter ballot next time. The Ohio ballot for the state constitution on establishing heterosexual marriage - which of course bans gay marriage - had a little tidbit attached at the very end. No civil unions will be recognized by the state. In the end, conservative christian coalition proponents snuck their agenda into the state constitution.

And of the gay couples I know - none are forcing their children to adopt the "gay agenda" into their life.

I would be interested to see the divorce/break up %'s of gay civil unions/marriage VS. hetero.
