Quick story for ya. We have a tree next to our office building that had, up until about 4 hours ago a hornets nest. They've never bothered us but our neighbor has a baby and they were worried that the nest might fall or that the hornets might get agitated. Anyways they called the local fire brigade in to remove it.
Apparently these hornets can't see in the dark or are less activate after dark so they waited till the evening to take it down. The nest was about 6 ft away from our 3rd floor balcony so I'd told them to give me a shout when they arrived and I'd let them in so they could tackle it up close.
I had expected the firemen to come wearing some kind of protective clothing, bee keepers’ hat or something but in true Asian style these two guys turn up wearing shorts and t-shirts carrying no equipment other than a long pole with an oily rag stuck to the end. Their technique was to set the nest alight then pull it over and cut it off the branch. They didn't want to drop it out of the tree because they wanted to eat the grubs inside and hang the nest outside their home as a good luck charm? In Asia you can have your nest and eat it. Crazy Asians!
