Hormones

I just got my testosterone levels checked and they themselves were normal. However, my luteinizing hormones are high and my prolactin hormones are slightly high. has this ever happened to anyone. MY dr. recomended me to see a endocrineologist, but i can't find one that takes my insurance.

Having a high LH is a good thing, that means your body is primed for testosterone production.Prolactin can be suppressed with Vitex,Bromocryptine or cabergoline.

im actually gonna disagree with the master here. It sounds like high progesterone levels may have shut you down a bit ... they are inhibitory themselves, a high LH (if above normal) MAY indicate desensitization of your tests to LH so your body increases the amount (this happens) or an attempt to renormalize your androgen levels ... what was the value of this and SHBG?

I will have to counter-disagree,he said his T levels were normal. If they were low, then I might agree.

i'm awaiting a call back to get my actual levels, but i can tell you a monthe ago my test levels were low (64). That is why I got them tested again, along with these hormones.

The high LH is not a good thing. Testicular insufficiency is characterized by high LH and low to low-normal testosterone. Testicular failure has the combination of high LH and low testosterone. These definitions are arbitrary; there are really a continuum of states. In either case what is happening is that your pituitary is working too hard to try to maintain test levels by oversecreting LH, as per NFG123's remarks. What exactly was your testosterone level? Was it in the normal range but low?

Other than drugs causing it, elevated prolactin raises a red flag with doctors: pituitary tumor that is oversecreting prolactin.

It's not surprising your doctor wants you to see an endocrinoligist. Depending on what if any drugs you are or have been using, the elevated prolactin deserves looking into, as well as the possible testicular insufficiency

If they are still low, then NFG may be on the right track.Either way, lowering your prolactin count will help.

I see you posted your test level. That is real low. High LH/Low T is pretty characteristic of testicular insufficiency. In the studies I have seen with people coming off a cycle, the LH is either low or normal, depending on how long you have been recovering. I have never seen elevated values. You should see a specialist rather than relying on internet advice.

It's not surprising your test is low then. It is surprising that LH is so high. The general pattern is that LH returns slowly to normal with test levels lagging behind by several weeks. But who knows; Im certainly no endocrinoligist. I'd give my hormones a few more weeks to normalize then get retested. It's not a medical emergency.

Like nandi stated, you're probably better off seeing an eno specialist. That being said,HCG can sensitize the testes response to LH(and using it will actually drop the pituitary's endogenous LH output,as HCG acts directly as LH,so the pituitary sees no need to produce more of its own). But I think it will be better for you to wait for a while as suggested above, have a re-test,and see what comes of it.
