Holy shnikees! Towel pullups/chins...

I tried these for the first time today and jeebus I was hurting. I only managed 4 sets of 8 and I was in intense pain after each set. I can barely straighten my fingers now. This has got to be one of the most awesome hand/forearm strength building exercises one can perform. Anyone looking for added grip strength should try these out.

They are simple to perform, just drape a towel over a chinup bar and grab each end with your hands. Don't tie a knot in the ends, either-- that is cheating. Hold on for dear life and try to do some chins.

This is definately a humbling exercise. I have deadlifted 505lbs with an overhand grip and can close the Captains of Crush #2 gripper 3 times with my left hand and 4 times with my right. I thought I had a badass grip until today.

Will be a must try in the near future...

Try doing chins on a power rack or brickwall/archway/door/gateway etc

Because the power rack is rectangular, you can only put 2 knuckles over the top, and your hand is held open. If you want awesome grip strength start here - and if you do weighted chins, then your in for a treat :)

Hey CoolColJ, I have always used the power rack and smith machine to do chin ups. When I was a kid I didn't have access to a bar so I used ledges around my house to do chins. Now I actually prefer rectangular grips to round ones when I do chins. It just feels more comfortable due to all the time I spent doing it that way as a kid.

It will improve your grip, because the hand is held open. Its great for developing rock climbing ability too.
