Pretty fucking insane. Media said it registered as a 2.1 earthquake in the area. Surprised the people in the car are still alive.
 
It blew their windows out of the truck.

So fucking sick hearing our guys' sirens head into that not knowing what's about to happen.

I won't watch that again..
 
I've watched the video a dozen times now and I am amazed at the speed in which you can see fire and debris reaching their truck. How in the hell were they not killed its a miracle.
 
Fucking ammonium nitrate storage facility is on fire, let's park nearby and film it...

thanks for the thoughts guys. I didn't really know the guys that well since we usually work a couple hours apart but from the times I met them they were solid bros.

Death count is rising still.

About to get into bunker gear so I won't be updating for a good while.

Its possible he thought it was just a burning building, large barn or storage or something and not filled with ammonium nitrate, a primary component of home grown explosives.

Regardless though, nothing good has come out of burning buildings in that Waco area ever.

Stay safe brother,I have friends I went to fire school with that are on a public safety department(fire/police) and I spent the last ten hours trying to reach them. luckily they are safe but have lost some coworkers, fucking shame when our guys go down. Thoughts and prayers from the brothers up north man,if you guys need anything pass it along.

He was interviewed on the news this morning with his 2 little girls. He was parked 300 yards away and knew the ammonium nitrate would blast. He said the blast lifted his truck off the ground. Fuck, he's stupid.

What an exhausting day both mentally and physically. Everything is still hot as fuck and small flash fires are popping here and there so the work is not done. On a break with my guys right now at a staging area at the local HS getting hydrated and a little food and fresh tanks.

Shifting through all the collapsed buildings to look for bodies and survivors when we head back out.

Haiti was the worst, but this one hits close to home since we lost a few good bros. Definitely a difference in morale today than with the quake and hurricanes we worked.

Yeah the guy was dumb, but its easy to underestimate the power of a blast like that.

There's a pretty common safety training film out there that shows a propane tank burning way off in the distance. The film ends as the tank blows up. the guy filming it died.

There was a guy at a mine in Tucson who wanted to show his buddies how powerful ammonium nitrate is, so he took a bucket full and put it out in the pit and drove away in his Jeep and detonated it. Blew the windshield out of his jeep and he ended up in the hospital.

We had a butane tank explode in the company I am with now, and a big hunk of the tank shell, weighing a couple thousand pounds, flew over a half a mile.
 
That still doesn't excuse him for having his little girls that close.

One of them had to be treated for a ruptured eardrum.

Besides, everyone here knows how fucking dangerous this shit is. Look up the Texas City blast. Same shit

I usually drive closer to disaster and crime scene's too. I like to get in the way of 1st responders.
 
Yeah I was up there. They've basically sent all the small town responders home since task force 1&2 showed up right?
 
Yeah everyone else is gone they are gonna run relief tonight for those of us still doing S&E. Some of the volunteer guys are doing home to home checks on the more damaged structures and the rest of the VFD guys got sent on home because they're breaking down.

The shock is wearing off and those bros are just small town joes who lost some of their drinkin buddies...
 
Yeah I know a bunch of the VFD from around here and it's starting to set in pretty hard on them. Are you still at the scene?
 
A couple hours East. We're an industrial team so we contract out to this kind of stuff. It's a second job since my municipal department and IFF jobs are both on an ABC schedule.

There are a few EMS guys missing. Do you know them?
 
Oh okay I gotcha. And no I don't think so. I'm a safety manager at a local company in Waco but I'm also certified ems so I don't really know too many other ems since it's kind of a side thing I do

texas has some crazy volley militia types...i was there a few summers ago when the state burned down...PPE was kinda random, and tactics seemed gurrellia style and independent.
fun for wildland stuff, and it made my outfit look stiff and rigid, but can be dangerous...did this spread and burn up any acreage?
if it had to happen probably better now than in september when things are crispy
 
Yeah bro the volleys lost 5 as of right now but more are missing. We sent them home last night when reality started setting in.

Volleys in a town of less than 3k people, you get the idea. Everybody knows and hangs out with everyone.

The blast lit up a couple nearby structures but didn't burn up too much acreage as it has been raining off and on for a day or two.

Fuckin gnar ass volley joes in the rural areas bro. Most are just young ass kids looking to help. Tough to see.

13 bodies recovered so far, still a fuck ton missing.
