Downtown is definitely in rough shape. You can tell there is a ton of construction for the Super Bowl, but it is rough. Definitely a lot of potential though. The water area across from Canada is nice. Dearborn was nice, got to go to some attractions (Henry Ford estate, ford factory, museum). Pontiac seems to be lively too. but that Dtown ghetto is pretty rough from what I saw.

everyone bounced outta the city and into the burbs

the city does have a lot to offer, with outdoor amptheaters, casino's, waterfront, etc. The super bowl will attempt to showcase this, though it may be difficult to avoid the ghetto landscape lola

The number one rule regarding fans if you are an athelete is you never go into the stands. If they come out on to the field or court in the middle of the game then they are free meat, but even then you better use common sense. You don't start pounding on someone and keep hitting them.

In all fairness, the right thing for Artest to do was to just sit still and let the police watch the tapes, and sue the shit out of the guy. Use his money to make sure that guy either ends up behind bars or never has a cent to his name for life. Instead, it's gonna be the other way around. The whole point of government is that they have a monopoly on the use of force. The fact that Artest responded rather than letting the government step in should b punished, and punished hard. Not just from the NBA standpoint but from a government standpoint.

That said, you could make the argument that a) by throwing the cup the fan did effectively enter the field of play, and/or that b) he was pursuing the fan because he feilt threatened and that he wanted to prevent the fan from throwing mroe objects. As a matter of fact I think some spokesman has already claimed he was just trying to hold the fan down so the police coudl come get him. Not saying that's true, just an argument he could make.

The problem that he's going to face is the person he went after still had a cup in his hand. If he is the one that tossed the cup where did he get the one he was holding? Granted, he could have had two cups, or even picked one up, but he can say that he wasn't the one, and unless there is another video of him throwing that cup he is going to be able to collect some money.

Another problem that Artess is going to have is he didn't/couldn't see who through it while he was laying on the table. He was looking straight at the ceiling. There is no way, short of video evidence that he can prove who through that drink.

Word is the guy in the white hat restraining Artest and then punching him from behind is the guy that threw the cup. Artest never punched the guy he went after initially, only held him down. Also the guy that ran up on Artest on the court was coming to sucker punch him. You could see his right hand cocked until Artest turned at the last moment and then the guy lost his heart. I laughed my ass off when Artest tee'd off on his face.

I hope that guy that O'neal blasted in the jaw is hurt bad.

This has less to do with thug mentality and more with emotions getting the best of the players involved.

*shakes head at this uneducated post*

Son, for someone who claims to be a genius, you sure make a lot of assumptions...have you ever been to detroit? Did you know that Oakland county is the second wealthiest county in America? Getting your info from entertainment figures doesn't sound to genius to me...maybe you should be a nurse instead of a doc.

LOL...my ex-wife tried to brag to me about living in the second wealthiest county in the U.S., she was making low six figures and living paycheck to paycheck.

It was bound to happen eventually.

When you have fans who think they have the right to interfere ie. throw cups, bottles on the players, you're going to have players who react in the heat of the moment.

When you consider it's Ron Artest, I don't think this is shocking at all. He's like Charles Barkley and Dennis Rodman rolled in to one, with a slightly more thuggish demeanor.

I guess Artest shouldn't have gone in the crowd. But in his defense just minutes before he was hit by that cup, he was almost in a fight with Ben Wallace, who pushed him in the face. So he was already fired up and trying to calm down on the announcers bench. He actually had headphones on if I'm not mistaken, talking to an announcer. It wasn't a very good time for that idiot fan to be throwing a cup at artest.
