America is the force that brought japan into modernity.

that is definitely true... they introduced it to the japanese but the japanese fully took advantage of it and took it to the fullest extent. Most countries would have not been able to do that.

Japan is a good example of what happens when a country develops so homogenously throughout its history, and then the world is opened up to it...

There are lessons there as we deal with North Korea and the middle east.

Agreed, and that was what I referred to whwen I said there are lessons for us....

America's post war investemnt in Japan was huge - we de-militarized them, had a governor general, and spent significant time and money on re-building.

The Japanese took to it and they are a great nation today. Their contribution to the world and to America is large.


Today in Iraq, people are calling for a rapid Iraq transition,we are already training the Iraqi military etc. Granted, we did not use atomic weapons against Iraq, but at the same time, the (recent) historical parallels are being ignored.

little off topic, but there were so many fucking massacres and mass-murders, yet it only seems like only one schools (high school and college) want to teach you is the Holocaust. i wish future youth could be more educated about the other holocausts of the wars.

Another reason is that Europe is the ancestral home of many Americans....whereas Asia is not.

What is sadly left off from the teachings of the Nazi Holocaust is the religious overtones and the role of the church.....a true historain can see the link all the way to the Roman empire.

US public schools are wherethe propaganda and dumbing down starts. Support vouchers...the first step to the destruction of public schools.
