hiit question.

ok, i know this is the wrong forum, but please try to answer my qustion.
i know hiit is all the rave, and i know it works, ive seen my brother go from a chuby kid to a ripped one. anyways, im decided to buy a rowing machine

it says that a one hour workout, should yield a loss of 600 calories. so how does a 15 minute hiit workout compare? does it still loose the same calories or does it loose fat for some other reason?
 
HIIT is better than regular cardio because it burns more calories , in less time. It also increases EPOC, meaning you'll burn calories after a HIIT routine even if you sit at your desk.
 
The fact is anything works. Your body doesn;t know what HIIT or anything else is... it knows calories in vs. calories out. I agree that HIIT keeps you in a catabolic state longer, but that also mean your loosing some muscle IMO.

If you rdiet is truly dialed in do some HIIT and some longer slower sessions and you will be as ripped as you want. You can get shreaded w/ zero cardio. Diet is key.

Err...not exactly. Aside from saving time for the reasons the previous poster mentioned, the main benefit of HIIT, from my own reading and experience, is that it improves nutrient partitioning (some have likened the anabolic effect to that produced by a strength training workout). So there's more to it than calories in and out. With HIIT, even if calories in = calories out (i.e., holding bodyweight steady and trying to recomp), you'll see desirable physique changes, whereas with LISS the effects would be minimal since it's basically a way of increasing the "calories out" variable.
 
Oh, and (not) to answer the original question, you'll just have to play around and see (based on weight changes and maybe hunger). HIIT will, as previously mentioned, elevate your metabolism, so the total calories burned will be greater than the "calories" number the machine shows at the end of the workout.
