High Intensity Training

Lonsdale

New member
Has anyone here tried high intensity training, a la Mike Mentzer or Dorian Yates? Did you get positive results? I'm just curious, think i may try it early next year, but it seems like SO little work - two twenty minute workouts a week...hmm...

I did that for awhile and got some results but nothing major. My gains stalled out quickly.

To be honest I wouldnt recommend HIT to anyone. There are far better programs out there.

You have to start out with considerably more work and then trim it down as you progress. If everything else is dialed in then it works VERY well, it's just that there are better things out there. It suits BBers better than sportspersons who need actual functional strength.

I bought the Yates book and tape in 2003 and was impressed to say the least. I was well acquainted with Heavy Duty having been there when it was introduced.

What I noticed about both men was that they warmed up a lot before hitting that one bust ass last set.

Anyway .... I followed the Yates routine in my own humble way compared to him ... and really busted my ass using cheats and drop sets ... what ever I needed to do to get 6-8 when I had failed at 2-4.

I also took a bunch of orals including dbol.

The workouts averaged an hour 4 times a week excluding stretching and some light biking.

And I grew! I went from 195 to 235 over about 6 months. I looked like a tank rather than a body builder. And I got injured a lot and was tired all the time. It was not a pretty picture.

Conclusion: It works, but is high risk.
