but have some questions still

bought this

Line 6 Flextone III Plus 1x12 Stereo Combo Amp
Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty Electric Guitar
and the Les Paul hard case

but don't know what else I need
You said buy a tuner, buy GHS Boomer strings, buy picks,
Which tuner, which strings, and what else will I need?

I'm deployed right now but the stuff should be in my mail room when I get home!

You can't go wrong with line 6 for home use. Since you're not playing on a big stage - you don't need tubes.

Epiphone Les Paul is nice. I would although, get the guitar shop to do the setup, intonation, replace the strings, etc. on it.

I would change the pickups to like an EMG 85/81 but you're starting - so those are fine (i think they're 498t's or something).

Buy a CHROMATIC tuner. But check your amp. I think the new flextone's has the chromatic tuner built in.

Buy GHS Boomer 10's. I like them and don't break easily. Also ask the guitar guy to wind the strings OVER the saddle at the bottom. They break less (insert debate).

For picks - i'm a shredder so i like the JAZZ 3 pickups. They are literally *indestructible*. And great for pinch harmonic screams like zakk or dimebag. I hate big pickups unless i'm on an acoustic.

Here's the best guitar teacher on the planet : Marc Seal

pickup Music Theory Set : http://www.marcseal.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=23

pickup improvisation and others if you want. He's an awesome teacher. And of course the metalmethod beginner set. It gets you off and running.

REMEMBER - first five months you WILL suck because you need to stretch your fingers and build up your calluses. Expect this. Only practicing every night - even 10 minutes - is the cure for this. EVERY guitarist has to go through this shitty boring phase.

Then once you pass that -- you now have a pleasure to enjoy til you're 99. :)

If you wanna do metal - get the guitar sarah riff teaching kit.

thanks, I have another month until I'm home so I will begin then. I'll have to find a decent shop to set me up when I get there, I bought my stuff though guitar center( I know I should support small shops). I'll let you know how I'm doing as time goes along, I'll bitch through the first 6 months.

pull out the PuPs and replace them...

Treble should be named = icepick
and Rhythm = Mud for the stock Pups

get heavy strings with bigger gauges.. have the shop do it or you put too much tension on the neck.. first guitar I ever bought I did it myself and the neck started cracking slowly but surely

I've always found small shops have 1) less variety 2) have higher prices 3) bitch to return anything.

Don't forget to buy a nice monster cable. And some nice big stereo headphones if u want to play at night.

Start learning how tab works. It's pretty easy.

shit man I'm not even quite sure how to properly hold a guitar yet alone translate above statement.

I mean I kind of understand put don't know what "bigger" is and probably wouldn't even notice. Like if you had never driven a car and got in your first one with a flat tire, maybe you would think that is how cars drive?

Nice Mega. Grats.

I have been eying an acoustic for fun. Seems like all my money is going to ammo and gear now lol.

Hope you and the boys are doing well.

u have two pickups. one is rhythm, one is guitar. both give different sounds. you use the selector switch to toggle between 3 modes.

oh and ur guitar has a battery. so many forget that. :)
