but have some questions still
bought this
Line 6 Flextone III Plus 1x12 Stereo Combo Amp
Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty Electric Guitar
and the Les Paul hard case
but don't know what else I need
You said buy a tuner, buy GHS Boomer strings, buy picks,
Which tuner, which strings, and what else will I need?
I'm deployed right now but the stuff should be in my mail room when I get home!
You can't go wrong with line 6 for home use. Since you're not playing on a big stage - you don't need tubes.
Epiphone Les Paul is nice. I would although, get the guitar shop to do the setup, intonation, replace the strings, etc. on it.
I would change the pickups to like an EMG 85/81 but you're starting - so those are fine (i think they're 498t's or something).
Buy a CHROMATIC tuner. But check your amp. I think the new flextone's has the chromatic tuner built in.
Buy GHS Boomer 10's. I like them and don't break easily. Also ask the guitar guy to wind the strings OVER the saddle at the bottom. They break less (insert debate).
For picks - i'm a shredder so i like the JAZZ 3 pickups. They are literally *indestructible*. And great for pinch harmonic screams like zakk or dimebag. I hate big pickups unless i'm on an acoustic.
Here's the best guitar teacher on the planet : Marc Seal
pickup Music Theory Set :

pickup improvisation and others if you want. He's an awesome teacher. And of course the metalmethod beginner set. It gets you off and running.
REMEMBER - first five months you WILL suck because you need to stretch your fingers and build up your calluses. Expect this. Only practicing every night - even 10 minutes - is the cure for this. EVERY guitarist has to go through this shitty boring phase.
Then once you pass that -- you now have a pleasure to enjoy til you're 99.
If you wanna do metal - get the guitar sarah riff teaching kit.
