Hernia problems

Hello all, just scouting for advice on a problem i have.
During my first cycle (bulking) i went balls to the wall on most core lifts like squats and deadlifts while making great progress i also developed an hernia whilst doing this.

Its now about 10 weeks post cycle and the hernia still 'pops out' now and again if thats the correct term. Ive found that this only happens when training abs directly so i have been avoiding that for the time being.

However i am planning a cutting cycle very soon and will need to be training abs directly to get the most out of it, so i dont know whether to get this seen to asap or carry on as im doing now (not training abs directly) The concerning thing ive heard about hernia ops is the recovery takes many weeks in which i will most likely lose a shit load of size and strength. Does anyone know what can happen with the hernia over time if its not fixed?

Sorry for going on, thanks.

Get the op done mate, ive just had one, it doesnt take that long to heal if you have keyhole surgery. You cant train properly otherwise, coz most exercises put strain on the stomach. If its not fixed it can strangulate and you can die, if thats not reason enough, then i dont know what is.

Had the same problem and did not have it operated on, it took a good two-three years to get back to normal

It is your call, I am still worried sometimes when doing abs and leg raisers.

Forgot to mention, your only out of training for 6 weeks after keyhole, so you wont lose to much size. Im doing cardio again and its only 2 weeks since op.

Thanks for the heads up fella's, youve surprised me there i didnt know you could die from it. I guess the sensible option would be to have it done asap. Can i ask how long you were in hospital after the op ralfaz? and did you have to take time off sick from work?

Thanks, if anyone else would like to share there experiences that would be great.

I went into hospital at 10:30am, had the op at 2:50pm and left the hospital at 7:30pm. You will be off work for 6 weeks after op, but you wont need to take time off before if you just say your ok.

Basically, a hernia is a protusion of abdominal contents, through a defect of you fascia (abd wall). The small bowel is the most common organ that slips through the hole. You can have different types of hernias. If the hernia pops back in it is "reduceable" which is good, if it stays out and doesnt pop back in it is incarcerated, if it is incarcerated and it is a small fascial defect (hole) it can become strangulated in which the blood supply is cut off. While people dont die from hernias (unless you let it go, got gangrene of the bowel, and became septic and never recieved any medical care) you can make the operation more difficult for yourself. What happens is the longer you have the hernia, the more scar tissue builds up, the greater the distortion of anatomy, greater opeation time, possible bigger incision, possible nerve damage (unable to visualize the ileoinguinal nerve that runs on the spermatic cord) and thus a longer recovery. If the henia becomes strangulated the bowel can die and then the surgeon will need to resect that portion of dead bowel (say bye-bye to eating for up to a week) I say get it taken care of, the sooner the better.
Also, some surgeons will perform this with a laparoscope so you only have 3 small 1/4" incisions ( the longer you wait the harder this is to perform because of scarring) which cuts down on recovery time. No matter what, they will all tell u no heavy lifting for 6 weeks.

6 weeks damn! you mean i wont have to take time off before the op if i say im ok? Did the doc say you could go back to work\training before 6 weeks if you feel ok?

This is exactly what ive had. One cut in the bellybutton and one either side, all 3 healed up in 9 days

Thanks for all the info fella's, i guess what i have is a 'reduceable hernia' as it 'pops' back in so it sounds like the same one that raffaz has just had.

At the moment im considering the operation and maybe cycling clen with mild doses of dnp while not training during the 6 weeks off then get into heavy training again when fully recovered. Im still a bit iffy on wether to do dnp or not yet so i'll be researching a lot more before i decide.

Thanks.

Ok I'm an expert on this with three hernia surgeries under my belt.

For umbillical hernia:
1-2 weeks of laying around in the house. After that you can do light cardio, walking, biking. No abs workouts. After 4 weeks can start back with the gym but only lightly. Stay away from squats, deads, bent rows, and abs for another week or two.

For regular hernias. I went back to school in three days with no problems. Followed same gym program as above.

Best of luck with your surgery. And get a good doctor or it will come back. Fucking free military medical:mad:  Cost me 20lbs and 4 weeks of training.

Guys, how do you know if you have a hernia? I'm not sure what to make out of my pain. I play football....in one of our games about 4 weeks ago It was raining, when I tried to cut I felt this sharp pain in my groin but had also done heavy squats the prior day without any pain. Did I just pull something? I still haven't recuperated....when I sneeze it hurts but not as bad as it did. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

That sounds to me like a groin strain. If you havent got a lump protruding from somewhere then your probably ok.

Mine was just below the waist line towrds the inside of my leg. It was a lump that would pop out if I strained or tried to tighten my abs. It was never painful before I had it operated on. This is the first time I've ever heard of anyones healing on its own. I would guess that w/out surgicaly repairing it, it would be very easy for it to reoccur, not to mention that's a very long time to take it easy so it can heal. I had mine done while I was in the military, they made about a 4" cut, went in there & sewed some mesh in there. Supposedly the muscles will grown in & around the mesh, making it stronger than it was before the Hernia. I gotta tell you though, maybe it was because the military did it but, I have never in my life been in so much pain for the first week. It hurt to piss, it hurt to laugh, caugh, sneeze hell it hurt to even get off the couch! For the first couple years I would have discomfort from time to time but, never any pain. It's been nearly six years now & I have absolutely no problems. It's my understanding that you will want to take it easy on the weight for a while after the surgery because if you re-open it you are in for some serious pain. I would go have the surgery done ASAP that way you can be on the road to recovery & I would also save the cutting cycle untill you can effectively use it. Either way, I would not just ignore it. I had a friend wait untill it was so bad htat it strangulated & he ended up in the ER as well as walking around gimp for a couple months.

Thanks for all the info fellas your the best, much clearer on this now. I knew that i had one when a big lump kept 'popping' out now and again mostly when training abs, very crippling pain to say the least, kinda put 2 + 2 together after that.

I'll let you know how things go,

Thanks again.
