Hernia anyone?

I had 2 hernia's within a 2 year timeframe, one on the left side of my groin, one on the right side.

For both I waited 4-6 weeks before getting back in the gym, but everything is fine now and am stronger than before.

It sounds like an umbilical hernia. Most times if it is small enough the intestines will eventually seat back down inside the abdominal wall. If you notice that the lump becomes harder and more pain is assocciated with it over time, then would be the time to get it taken care of. And as others have already stated, if it IS strangulated then there is the posibility that infection could set it, although being as it is somewhat small and no pain has been felt as of lately you are probably good to go.

bro just had mine exactly 4 weeks ago. mine was inguinal on the left side groin. had the laprascopic surgery. felt like shit for a week, couldnt get up outta bet. 2 weeks later i was walking and feeling good. bye the third week the doc told me to get my fat ass back into the gym and i still feel a little pulling in the area but he said just go easy at first and ill be back to normal. good luck.

I had hernia surgery in the groin years ago. It's perfect now.

IMO you should get the surgery, take a couple months off to get better, then hit it hard.

I agree with this.

how did you guys get hernias? are they caused from over straining?
First one I don't know how I got it, as I never felt it happen.
Second one I got unloading a incline leg press machine. Instead of walking the plates over to the weight tree I kind of leaned forward and flung the plate at arms length. I felt a burning tear in my groin. As time went on and I kept deadlifting I eventually developed a bulge were the intestines would push through the muscle. I then made arangements to have it fixed, but by the time my HMO approved it, and the operation got scheduled, the intestines had worked themselves down into my scrotum and would push against my right testicle. The only relief from the pain was to lie down and let the intestines slip back to were they belonged.
The first one in the belly button I had for more than 2 years and the pain was never bad.
The second one I had less than 6 months and the pain got severe in a hurry.

IMO the real cause for hernias is a combination of having a genetic weakness in a particular area, and then straining that area in a way that the muscle can't withstand.
