Help with wife's blood work

Nemisis RR

New member
First she is in good health and works out with "Core" type work outs 3 times a week. She is a mom and works full time. Age is 36

We have a great sex life BUT her sex drive is lacking. Sometimes a little more fatigued than she should be.

These symptoms were horrible before but she is now taking 20mg of natural porgesterone cream. The progesterone brought great benefits and eleviated many of her symptons.

Her problems started after her first pregnancy and she was diagnosed as Hypothyroid and takes .175mcg of synthroid. This was 10 years ago.

Her diet and vitamin suplementation is great. Cardio fitness is great. She has better than average muscle tone due to her dedication to stay fit but in my opinion her efforts are greater than her results.

No financial, marital or family problems.

This is her PREVIOUS lab work without progesterone supplementation 11/01/07. She was feeling very lethargic and the sex life was not there.

T4 Free 1.46 Range .61 - 1.76 ng/dl
TSH .843 Range .350 - 5.5 uiu/ml

LH 6.1 Range 0 - 76.3
FSH 6.7 Range 3.4 - 33.4

Progesterone 4.2 Range 3.3 - 25.6

Test 35 Range 14 - 76
estradiol 163 Range 150 - 528

This was her blood work done at Quest on 08/01/08 taking 20mg of transdermal progesterone. Great improvement in mood, energy and sex life but just not perfect yet. Also low on test.

TSH 1.68 Range .4 - 4.5miu/l
T4 Free 1.5 Range .8 - 1.8 ng/dl

LH 2.3 Range .5 - 16.9
FSH 2.4 Range 1.5 - 9.1
Progesterone 14.4 Range 3.3 - 26

DHEA 90 Range 40 - 325
Test total 5 Range 15 - 70 ng/dl
Test Free% .8 Range .5 - 1.8 percent
Test Free .4 Range 1 - 8.5

Should I consider DHEA or test supplementation?

Any ideas?

I find that women's sex drive is more psychological than physiological or biochemical.

Did you know that female libido/sex drive has really only been studied for the last 30 years.

Is she seeing a GP or endocrinologists to supervise her hormone therapy?

Hi! If the progesterone is a prescription (not sure since 100 mg is the minimum) then perhaps she might need testosterone cream as well.
If she's not seeying an endocrinologist, she should see one to determine what dosage she needs and whether she needs testosterone and Estrodial. I started peri-menopause in my thirties so is not like is unheard of if she's going through it now.

Progesterone is over the counter transdermal at 20 mg per day. She is under a doctors care for her thyroid.

Since her DHEA level is at 90 for a range of 40 - 325, and it is a percursor to testosterone which she is deficient, we are trying 100mg oral pill per day.

If you know of a good Endo on in the NY, NJ, PA, or CT area that is knowledgable please pass that info on.
