help with my bro's car

Hello everybody...i have a problem. My bro took his 93 GT Probe to a Penske repair shop to change his belts in the engine. The other day we go and the mechanic tells him everything's done. When he turns on the engine there's more noise than there was before we put the car in the shop. We ask the mechanic what's wrong and he's like 'i wasn't here so i don't know how it sounded before'...He asks around and finds out from the other mechanics working there that yes, it sounds louder than before the repair. It sounded like a knocking on the engine.
My bro tells the mechanic he'll come back in like two days so they fix the problem and he says ok. Two days later the manager calls my bro's cell phone and says that they did nothing wrong with the car and he's gotta pick it up. My bro tells him he's not paying for a messed up job, he could mess up his car for free. They talk for like an hour and the manager doesn't back down and says : i'll take the car to a ford dealer and if they say it's not our fault you'll have to pay the amount for the belts and whatever else they changed ($260).
Now my bro and i have worked in repair shops and tire changing places and we know how much fucked up shit goes in there. So immediately when he told me what the manager told him i was like 'i'm sure some guy there fucked up and now he's trying to cover it...they know we don't have much proof'.
Anyways, what should we do next so they at least fix it like it was before? They wanna give it to us with that loud noise plus they want us to pay for it...Somebody told me call the Better Business Bureau and complain but i don't know that it would help. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I don't know about where you live, but here in Orlando, if some f'ed up shiot happens like that just go to the local news and have them follow up on it. They call it whistle blowing. It does sound like they messed with something so I'm sure which ever local news channel is the most popular, will find other incidents that this has happened. That's a good way to blow them wide open. Also go to the BBB like someone suggested. Hope this helps

I find that a loaded gun pointed at a person's temple is a very effective bargaining tool.

thanks Deliquent

I'll tell my bro to call the local tv station if they don't fix our car...they have the same thing here in Detroit too. Wodin, you're funny man...

Tell him to get someone he knows to check it out...The dealership is going to back him up in all likelyhood

sometimes new belts are a bit loud at first so I'm assuming this is beyond acceptable
