Help with dvd x-copy!!!Please!!!

I am a computer novice that can hardly turn the damn machine on, with that said I have a friend who sent me a copy of dvd xcopy and i want to get the thing up and running. I got it to where the program tells you to insert the movie, did that then it says insert blank disk(to copy). Did that and nothing happens, the start button doesnt light up.

I just bought a new notebook comp, toshiba satelite and i know it has a cd/dvd burner but is the a seperate program i have to buy?????

alright im not so brilliant, i have a dvd/cd rom not a dvd burner. Any recommendations as to a good burner???
