I know relatively nothing about computers. I bought a bare bones Dell last year which exploded. I removed the hd because I had hopes that the information/artwork could still be accessed.

Currently, all I have is an old Compac pc and a Gateway. I was thinking of placing the hd in the Compac to find out if I can get to any of the data. There are some art pieces on that drive which I'd hate to lose.

Can someone link or post a VERY simple step by step procedure to place that drive in the Compac?

Thank you very much, guys:)

well, you removed the hdd from the broken PC, so that is a step already taken. Now here's what you do:

get one of these:

from here:

1. plug the ide and power adapter components into the drive you want to extract data from.
2. plug the usb end of the cable into a free USB port of a working computer to view the contents of the drive.

good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
