Even KB for on pointness.
Here is my dilema, I'm leaving on a cruise in a couple of weeks and I need a suit. I have no clue what colors are in style and where the hell I can go and how much I should be spending since I HARDLY ever wear a suit.

there was this pimp khaki suit at macy's i saw with very subtle white pinstripes, hotness son

I'm gonna have to avoid this thread for all of the anticipated bad responses, mostly from wimins no doubt. A few thoughts/questions:

- what is the primary use for the suit? is there a near-black tie affair one night? or is it just to have for whenever you decide to wear it? do you envision wearing it more than once on the same trip?
- where is the cruise going?
- nice, clean, simple suits can't be beat. you can do SO much to a suit with different shirts, ties (or lack of), belts, and shoes.
- I'd go with a lighter color for the environment you'll be in. doesn't mean you can't do a real nice light grey tho (my favorite color in a suit)
- get fitted and by someone you trust. fit is the number 1 most important aspect of wearing a suit
- treat it well once you purchase it, travel with it, and wear it

And, as we should all know by now, the KEY to ON POINTEDNESS is rocking that gear with confidence. All else shall fall into place.

Good stuff peeps, keep it coming.

Swole btw, I couldn't pull off the strips maing, just don't have the mojo.
Gonna go to Macys and check it out though.

Any luck on Saturday playin with the tribes money?

Smart man, knowing thyself is another key to ON POINTEDNESS

Dude, take a Saturday afternoon (bring a girl if you can/want or just use the oppty to pick up girls) and go try a bunch of suits on. You'll know the right one when you see it. Try stores like Syms, Men's Warehouse, even JC Penney, Macy's and Filene's (are there Filene's and JC's anymore?!).

Macys bought out Filenes so it's just Macys now and JC Penney is still rockin. Day late dollar short though. My girls good friend works at JC and gave her a special friends and family 20%off anything coupon only valid for yesterday :worried:

What build are you bro?

This guy looks like a douche, but I love white suits. Yes, it's a bit cliche for cruises/nice weather, but that matters naught. A nice white suit with tan shirt under it (prefferably not a button down) and tan no-lace shoes.

Something this color (a light tan) is just PIMP, especially with the right tie/shirt combo. Depending on what colors you rock well, I would throw on a pastel orange tie or even lime.

If budget is an issue, tremendous suits can be had at Marshall's, Syms, etc. for 150-250. We're talking DKNY, Nautica, etc. Macy's also has good deals but make sure you are using any and all available coupons.

Right now you're better off with two or three button. Every man needs three colors: black, navy, charcoal grey. After that you can start worrying about detailed patterns and/or obvious pin stripes.

You're better off sticking with a nice wool gaberdine, very versatile material.

Considering that it's winter, you will also need to consider purchasing a wool top coat, which can also be found for 250 or less at any of those stores. Same principles apply.

A lot of the variety is in the shirt and tie.. which can make any basic colored suit look completely different. White shirts can go with almost any tie but are kind of boring. Blue shirts like fantastic with yellow, navy or red based ties. If you're into a modern look you can really do amazing things with trendy colors like pink, etc.

Lastly... don't forget to coordinate the accessories. No wearing a black shirt with a navy suit, and make sure you are using a brown belt and shoes with blues and browns, and black with most everything else.

I worked in Nordstrom men's division for 4 years I'm pretty tight with this kinda stuff.

I bought a tight Boss plaid brown/green/maroon/misc vest at Nordstrom a couple months ago. I can't even walk in that place cause I'll go broke in 10 minutes with the stuff I want to get there. Dangerous, I say

I like the light suits for earlier stuff, but there is a black tie night on cruises. I like a dark suit for evening black tie events. Light suits are a little too informal for that, in my opinion. If you are only going to get one suit, I would get a charcoal or black. It will be far more useful in your wardrobe as a foundation piece.

Make sure that your pants are just long enough that they sit on top of your shoe and form one break in the front. There is nothing worse than a suit that is too short! Make sure that the sleeves are long enough. Wave your arms around to be sure. Plus, lots of American guys get the jackets too big. This creates an imbalanced look and sort of reminds me of the old zoot suits...lol. Have a little room under your armpits but not so much that you are just swimming in the suit. Americans always want to put comfort over style by buying everything too big, but this is a suit, not sweatpants. ;-)

Get a good tailor at the store to help advise you.

Add a little punch with the colors you choose for the shirt and tie.

=-)

great point.

If you have time before, take the suit to a tailor... a few minor take in's here and there, make a HUGE difference, and well worth the 10-30 bucks.

I love Boss. My favorite suit I own right now is a Boss - charcoal grey is the best description I can give, but that doesn't give it justice. It's my go-to suit. Good job, Cock McDudeToucher

Yeah, I know... Every once-in-a-while, I am half as "on point" as you are. Bitches, beware...

I am lucky (besides being born with unmatchable wit and charm), my pops has been a men's clothing buyer since he was like 20. So I've always had access to all sorts of men's clothing, especially suits. I remember when I was a junior in college I called him up and told him I needed a suit for interviews, etc. He told me to hop on a train to NYC and meet him that weekend. The next morning his friend, (Irwin, the Jew) came and picked us up in his Mercedes that he just got customized so that the entire roof was friggin glass. We took a trip to Irwin's warehouse outside of the Meadowlands in N. Jersey and basically walked through the warehouse just pointing and taking suits. I didn't realize how lucky I was at the time. I still have $5k suits hanging in my closet that I have never worn or only wore once.

Mad props to pops.
