Help me diagnose my illness

Here's the deal: I haven't been this sick in YEARS. Monday afternoon just after lunch I got hit with a high fever and started not being able to keep any food down. Even water was coming back up for a 24 hour period which was a little worrisome. Then Wednesday things changed to everything coming out the other end in liquid form and that has kept up until now. Last night after thinking I kicked the fever it shot up again to the point where I almost went to the hospital - now this morning it broke and I woke up in a pool of sweat. But I'm still pissing out of my ass.

I know it's the flu but this is the worst flu I've ever had and I never get this sick so I'm wondering if I might have one of those new exotic bird flus so that I can get on TV when I die. Anyone else had anything this bad?

Anyone reporting Norwalk virus in your area? Wickedly contagious, symptomatically very similiar to your description.

Watch out for dehydration and electrolyte balance!

Generally speaking, if you're not shot through with severe exhaustion accompanied by joint or body aches and pains and and/or a headache it's food or water bourne. Vomiting followed by diarrhea, even if it is accompanied by fever, usually means your body is trying to get something out. Salmonella, a VERY common food poisoning, will cause fever and it just LOOOVVEES high protein foods (undercooked chicken or raw eggs are grand transmitters ...)

With the stomach flu the vomiting AND diarrhea hit at the same time (the sitting on the toilet holding a bucket syndrome ...)

You have GOT to stay hydrated, that is extremely important. Electrolyte imbalance can really screw you up.

A foodborne illness is definitely a strong consideration here. If you have blood in your stools, you should see a physician pronto as you will need antibiotics (since it would be an invasive enterocolitis).

If you're still running fevers, having diarrhea, or feeling dehydrated, then see a physician... preferably at an urgent care clinic that might give you a couple liters of IV fluids to make you feel better.

Pony hasn't posted since he made the thread :worried:

Y'know, maybe a thread should be stickied that lists the crap that falls under the category of DO NOT HESITATE TO GO TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM IF THIS IS HAPPENING ... things like vomiting blood, injection problems, diarrhea and vomiting for xyz days, fevers over a certain temp for a certain period of time

What 'cha think?

I've actually seen posts for all of this and it's ummm, worrisome ...

probalby norovirus (sp) or more commonly know as the stomach flu. youll live. takes a few days to get thru your system. those awful symptoms are your bodies way of ridding itself of the virus.

we toss around the term stomach flu but it is a misnomer. the real flu is when you are infected with the influenza virus. now THAT is true hell. at least with the stomach "flu" you know it will pass in two or three days.

how high a fever? high fever not typical of viruses, but more of bacterial infections.
