Heavy and light days

SoreArms

New member
I've been doing a heavy leg workout on Mondays and then a second lighter leg workout on Fridays for the last 2 months and I've noticed some great developement on my legs. I'm thinking of spreading this practice to my arms. Currently I don't have an arms only day. I work tri's on chest day and bi's on back day. I am thinking of adding a separate heavy arm workout day as well as doing the tri's with chest and bi's with back as light training for those muscles. Or should I add a type of circuit training day instead and hit all my muscles with a light day.

What do you guys think? Is this common practice?

Sore I'd say that you should consider what is currently working for you before you change anything.

The way you're working arms now is pretty conventional but that doesnt mean you necessarily need to get creative. Are your arms growing now? If so why change? Remember you cant expect your arms to tolerate the same volume of training as your legs and still overcompensate, i.e grow. Also consider all the collateral work they're already getting from chest, shoulder and back training.

Good point Anya

I just feel that I am not pushing my arms as much as I could. On chest and back day, the larger muscles are the focus of the workout and the bi's and tri's are done last. I like to push myself hard so, for example, on chest day, by the time I get to my bi's, they are already so worked and exhausted that it is hard to push them as much as I'd like. It is currently a slow proces to move up the weight and also the number of reps and sets, IMO, is low. I understand that they get well stimulated by chest and back work but I feel that they could tolerate more. All of my major muscles heal within 3 days or so, I feel I could work them again after that.
