Heartrate 200BPM?!

Just recently started with the cardio (read yesteday), about 5.5-6mph for 25-30 minutes.. tonight at the gym I grabbed the deal that measures your heart rate, and the damn thing read 200bpm? Is that even possible? I thought my heart would explode or something at that rate :)

I'm 5'6, 155 about 16%bf.. the only thing I can think is the EC stack I'm taking might do it.. it's 200mg caf, 25mg eph hcl 3x a day.. i took the last one at 5:30, and I worked out around 8:30.. granted I smoke too, which probably doesn't help, but 200bpm? Tell me that machine was wack.. :p

edit: I just remembered this and thought it might be important to mention.. i normally take inderal (generic is propranolol, a beta blocker for hypertension, although I don't have hypertension, I take it for another reason) and I quit taking them about 2-3 weeks ago...

Mine has been well over 200 after doing a medley. I normally puke when I'm done though...

Mine was 196 maximum, using a timex heart rate strap monitor, while doing 800 meter interval sprints. And I could only hold it on for 15 seconds before I needed to slow down my pace or risk dieing on the spot.

Hmm.. yeah, see according to this thing I had a sustained heart rate of 200 over close to the whole time.. must've been out of wack, I'll keep an eye on it in the future. thanks guys.

When I ran cross country in high school my highest recorded heart rate was 205. This was during 400m interval training. If yours was up that high, you would definitely know it. It wouldn't be from 25 mins of moderate exercise.

over 200 BPM is possible when sprinting or any very intensity exercice

but 5.5-6mph is not that high
