Healthy breads?

What are some? Does any have some brand name brands that they can give me that don't have anything bad and I can eat with good conscious.

I've been taking this Beefsteak Rye Hearty Rye Bread. It doesn't have high fructose syrup, unlike it's soft rye counterpart, so I thought it was good. Is it?

Here's the list of Ingredients:

Enriched Wheat Flour [Flour, Barley Malt, Ferrous Sulfate (Iron), "B" Vitamins (Niacin Thiamine Mononitrate (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Folic Acid)], Water, Rye Flour, Yeast. Contains 2% Or Less Of: Wheat Gluten, Soybean Oil, Salt, Caraway Seed, Dough Conditioners [Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Potassium Bromate), Mono And Diglycerides, Datem, Ground Caraway Seed, Vinegar, Malic Acid, Acetic Acid, Lactic Acid, Spices, Natural Flavors, Calcium Propionate (To Retain Freshness).

When it comes to bread, I'll be blunt......I know very little....I know what ingredients are junk, etc...but bread is not my forte'......I do know, howver, that 99% of the people you find around here lump it with protein bars as two foods to avoid..........just an fyi

Some smart guy should actually make a healthy bread....I bet they would be shocked how many people would buy it.

Can you make bread from oatmeal?

I don't eat bread because of my bodies shitty response to carbs, however, latortilla factory low carb tortillas are perfect for my needs. They contain tons of fiber with like 3 impact carbs and are only 60cals. They satisfy my urges to eat starchy foods.

I don't know what you mean by healthy but a good type of bread you can eat is Pumpernickle bread. Its really low on the GI scale.

PEACE

the low carb tortillas are my choice as well.

You can buy them at www.latortillafactory.com or at Health Food stores, or if you are in the states, Ingles grocery stores have them alot cheaper.

You'll find HFCS in just about all bakery items... They say it makes their bread have a fresher, just made-look.

hmm....im sure black bread is as low GI as it gets for a bread (its a traditional german bread)

you know, I love those little garlic low carb waps, but they are only 50 cals. and I'm not on CKD........only thing that worries we is the amount of fiber....I get a ton already from oats, broc., veggies, etc...just wondering how many you guys eat a day....thinking of swapping two for my 3rd meal instead of a 6oz yam, but dont want to feel bloated...........

I eat like 4/day but that's where the majority of my fiber comes from since I don't eat a whole lot of other carbs. My fiber intake throughout the day consists of 2 leaves of romain lettuce, 1/2C oatmeal, and 1C of some other fibrous vegetable). On keto days I use psyllium husk.

when considering a healthy bread look at carb to fiber content - danielson is right that 'black bread' is good (being german i know this) also you can find - by searching around a bit hard rye - going to be a little higher in carbs however none is of the fructose kind. And as for those on CKDs (like me) you can get away w/ a few (like two) slices - just not every day and try to get in pre workout - as much as some want to believe bread is not going to sink your diet - use moderation ... just my $0.02

here is a bread that i make that is really fast and really easy:
grease with pam two loaf pans or an 8 x 8 cake pan
then in a large bowl mix the following together: 5 cups whole wheat flour and another cup of soy/barley/rye or whatever else type of flour you want [you can also substitute 6 cups whole wheat flour] add half cup bran, two pkgs of regular yeast, a tsp salt, half cup sugar [white or brown or mix] and 3.5 to 4 cups warm water

beat like hell for 3 minutes then dump into the pan/s
let rise for an hour or until doubles in bulk

bake 400 for 15 min then 350 for another 30 to 45 min.

I needed bread and was sick of the 50 ingredients on the labels. This is yummy ... it really is!!

organic whole wheat bread or rye bread is OK

What are the macros of this recipe? Don't you have a bread mixer??????

no bread mixer, i am sorry but I have no ideas of the calories, carbs, etc, but obviously there is no fat in it... you could check out the calories etc via fitday.com or some other site with nutrient listings I think

It's a little bit pricy, but for the minimal amount of bread I eat, I like the Ezekiel breads and wraps for the occasional egg-white breakfast sandwich or burrito.

Ingredients of the "original sprouted grain bread":
*Organic Sprouted Wheat, *Organic Sprouted Barley, *Organic Sprouted Millet, Malted Barley, *Organic Sprouted Lentils, *Organic Sprouted Soybeans, *Organic Spelt, Filtered Water, Fresh Yeast, Sea Salt.

It's also tasty, in a hearty chewable fashion.

Ezekiel bread

Are any of these ingredients bad?

White Rye Flour, Wheat Flour, Soybean Oil, Salt, Yeast, Molasses, Dough Conditioners (Soy Lecithin, Monoglycerides). Calcium Propionate (A Preservative).

It's in a bread called Wild's German Style Bauernbrot.

Well. The wheat flour doesn't say whether it's "whole" or not, so it might just be plain white. Overprocessed, high GI. Soybean oil. I try to avoid added oils where possible. Molasses=sugar. Preservative. The less of those the better, IMHO.

Not totally lousy, but you could do better, even without tossing the five bucks for Ezekiel. You could even bake your own.
