Health care bill passed, say goodbye to your doctor!

Or we could hit the food industry with a bow shot and let them know that their days of poisoning the populace is over. Ever thought of that? Nope, bet you didn't cause you're wealthy and can buy real food. Climb down from your tower and you "might" start to get a grasp of what's going on in this country and why our health care costs are as high as they are. Here's some good reading to get you off on the right foot.

Let me google that for you

We've split the payer (gubment) from the consumer (patient) from the provider (doctor) from the purchaser (hospital) -- and then we expect the system to work.

It's crazy. We could save tens of billions per year (or more) simply by giving the hospital a lump sum and use a portion of that money to contract (or outright hire) the physician. Add-in a token copay (i.e. 2%) on services starting with the first $1 and you'd strip additional tens of billions (or more) in cost.

If this is about Americans stuffing too many twinkies and pork rinds into their mouths then yes, we've got a huge problem. But I don't see what being rich has to do with having to put-down the ho ho. It's typical American thinking though -- blame the maker of the twinkie instead of the guy who just ate 12 of them in one sitting.

Now if this is about the organic food scam, I completely support that. Organic food is a voluntary tax on anti-big business people and conspiracy theorists, which can only be a good thing. I support lotteries as well.

yes, absolutely!! At some point we have to. You know there's something ironic here. You don't want marijuana to be legal because of some roundabout logic that you'll eventually have to foot the bill for that persons unproductivity or blah blah blah. Yet you're ok with processed foods being legal despite the fact that their very consumption is what's driving up the health care costs in this country which has cost "YOU" personally a hell of alot more than the marijuana smoking population.........although admittedly there's probably alot of intersection between the two. can you explain to me what the "organic food scam" is? Is it that you think regular food is being labeled as "organic"? yes, that would be a scam......but is "real" organic food a scam to you? I don't understand.

Pot combined with our ridiculous social welfare system costs us enough already. Legalizing it would just waste more money. Now if someone wants to waive their rights to all social welfare programs in exchange for the right to use any and all drugs, I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. Are you up for that? 100% surrender of food stamps, government loans, welfare, medicaid, etc. etc. -- and you get a pass to use any drug you want.

A twinkie tax is a terrible idea for a number of reasons. Besides feeding our ever-expanding nanny state, it's an unrealizable system. Who sets the twinkie tax? What gets taxed more -- one twikie or two orders of french fries? What if those fries are "all natural" (whatever the hell that means). What if they are organic too? Oh, I've got one better. What gets taxed more -- a twinkie or downing 12 all-natural egg yolks and another 32 ounces of organic orange juice? So is 5 grams of high-fructose corn syrup worse than 50 grams of fructose?

That's the problem with all these great social engineering ideas. They ignore the underlying problem of personal responsibility and instead deliver of a whole new set of perverse incentives and unintended consequences.

We've argued organic food before. Go plat and look the thread up. Besides, you should go plat anyway to support the site.

If you want to pay a premium for food you percieve to be better, have at it. Just don't complain about the price. Organic food is a voluntary tax, which I completely support.

I'm not buying that pot costs us anything. I think that's too difficult a statistic to even remotely begin to calculate. There's too many people in this country who are productive "BECAUSE" they smoke marijuana.......alot of fucked up people out there who wouldn't be able to leave their house without being high. I know you won't beleive this and that's because you have limited social exposure, VERY limited. You're simply regurgitating the baseless decades old arguments that were handed down to us by the previous generation. Just because people aren't willing to work 80 hours a week doesn't mean theyr'e not productive, but to the past generation that was exactly why they didnt like pot......it made people too aware of what was going on.

I'm talking about simply outlawing the whole factory processes that lead to that kind of poison. But a tax doesn't sound like a bad idea either. Make it affordable only to those that can afford the inevitable health care bills that come with that indulgent lifestyle. I understand your point about where do you make the cutoff, but that doesn't seem like too terrible a problem.

what you're not understanding is that personal accountability is a non issue when it's all that you can afford. As a society that has to be fixed no ifs ands or buts. And with our growing population we don't have a choice. Driving down health care costs has to start with an acknowledgement that the over indulgent american paradigms have to come to an end.

I'm sure you don't. Meth probably doesn't cost us anything either, since those people are probably very productive while they are buzzing. It's an impossible calculation.

So you get to run around declaring foods legal or illegal? That's priceless. I really don't like celery or licorace -- let's add that to the list.

Society has to be fixed? Oh cool! I'm ok with that as long as I get to decide which fixes to implement.

And food is plenty cheap, as long as you aren't some ninny running around looking for chickens that meditated twice a day in order to lead stress-free lives. Man up, go to Costco and buy the big-ass 24 pack of chicken breasts and move on.

And you'll never legislate overindulgance. The only fix for that is personal responsibility.

You still haven't platted up either. What's up with that?

It's not about personal likes or dislikes, it's about the impact on society that a particular food, or more aptly a particular process, has on society. I'm sure there are ways to make a twinkie that doesn't entail putting chemicals in it to give it shelf life of 100 years. I'm sure you can make a beverage that tastes like coke yet doesn't dissolve pennies.

No, you don't get to decide. Bluntly stated.

And food is plenty cheap

correction, shit food is plenty cheap.

care to explain why you care whether I'm plat or not?

Quote system giving you trouble?

So you just want twinkies that rot faster and cokes that don't "dissolve pennies". See, this whole time I thought you were worried about all the high-fructose corn syrup and trans fats in junk food.

No, you don't get to decide. Bluntly stated.

But it sure can't be you either can it? As excited as I would be for you to finally get a job, I have to think you'd be way over your head.

correction, shit food is plenty cheap.

No, food is plenty cheap. It's embarassing how cheaply you can buy the basics like long grain rice, black beans, lentils, etc. etc. And meat is plenty cheap too -- just buy in bulk and freeze it. Now if you want your cow to be ran on a treadmill each day, fed conflict-free grass and listen to Mozart as part of a stress-free life, then of course it's going to be expensive. But that's your own choice to pay for all that useless, silly crap. Get off your high horse, leave the ridiculous organic foods scam store and go to Costco/Sams like everyone else.

care to explain why you care whether I'm plat or not?

Sure -- two reasons. First, it would make it easier for you to look-up all the ridiculous crap you've posted in the past. You know, the same tired, old arguments you keep losing. That would be a huge time saver for both of us.

Second, let's take a moment and empathize with this site. Think about how much money EF spends just storing your periods (as in "....") and your quotation marks (as "in" ") on its server. Doesn't it bother you to consume so many resources yet not make even a token gesture to pay for them?
