He He He I-Am-Iron-Woman!

I was working back/shoulders/bis today. Now for those who aren't familiar with me, I am not that strong. I'm still trying to work all my stabilizers so I can do a squat with the Olympic bar (sans plates) without falling on my butt. For the past 5 weeks I've been adding 5 lbs. an exercise every week (well, except on bis which seem to be stalled) so I'm happy with my progress.

Today I was just finishing up my last set of cable rows when the two big guys at the other cable station glanced over at me. One of them laughed and said, "You're strong!"

Now, I only had it at 95 lbs., so I kind of raised my eyebrows at him (I tried for that one-browed Mr. Spock look but failed miserably). The fellow says, "No, really! You're pulling 5 pounds more than we do!" I laughed and said, "Pretty good for an old fat broad, huh?"

To me 95 pounds on the cable row doesn't seem like all that much, but I have to admit that I was smiling to myself the rest of the workout. I even thought of Makedah and her post about kicking ass. Guess I've been spending too much time on this board!

BTW, I had to move up to the Olympic bar for presses and good mornings today. I think it'll only be another 2 or 3 weeks before I finally do a real (i.e., in the cage) squat!

Woo hoo! That is the best feeling!

I remember one of the big guys hi-fiving me once at one of the gyms where I rarely lift. I had done chest & tris, moved on to tris & he comes over - hi-fives me & says, "Nice work on that flat bench!"

Very cool! :D

Awwww, thanks guys. I'm tired after a night of legs and a lightning round of Christmas shopping. Had a great workout and was oh so tempted to squat with that bar. Instead I stuck to the EZ bar (which would make that the highest weight I've used). No problems whatsoever. I'm really tempted to give it a try next time. I seemed to handle the good mornings okay with it, although the sheer length of the bar is hard to adjust to.

It really is a great feeling when a stranger tells you you're doing a great job. :)

You'll get there, 2Shy. I've said this before, but I couldn't stand up easily with the Olympic bar back in June, now I can can squat 125#.

I know my legs can take more weight, but I can only hold about 125# across my back these days. (Which is limiting my good mornings, too.) I'm working on thickening/strengthening my upper back so that I can securely hold more weight.

Go Glad!!! :D

Congrats, 2shy! Its always a nice little ego boost for me when the guys with arms as big around as my thighs give me the little nod of approval. Even better is when their jaws are gaping 'cause they didn't realize you actually had any muscle. :D
