having spine issues with weighted pullups

so i've been doin weighted pullups for a while now, i'm up to 55lbs for reps of 5... GREAT for my upper back, but my lower back is being a little bitch about it. i use a belt strapped around my waist and just attach a DB to a rope hanging between my legs from the belt. i guess that the weight of the DB has gotten to be so much that it "stretches out" my spine when i'm hanging from the bar. it feels sorta like when you crack your back, but it's not a totally great or natural feeling.

so what i want to know, is, is this bad for my poor lil spine? (my lower back +core is pretty strong, i do 405lbs deads, so that isn't the issue). i mean i don't want to dislocate a disc or tear a ligament back there or worse, so if anyone with any experience with this or that knows back physiology can respond to this it would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks!

it shouldnt be bad for your back, its just like popping a finger. tehre is a guy up in a local gym up here that does pullups and dips with 2 45 plates on a belt and he once described the same feeling to me. he just goes to a chiro once a week.

You can buy weighted vest online if you have the money, some go up to 100lbs and are very comfortable. If it is too uncomfortable to have a dipping belt on the only thing I can think of is a lat machine that works up to 400lbs or so, but these are excedingly rare. Just a tough situation all around

its bad, because what can happen is your legs be pulled from the rest of your body, via your spine ripping in half.

stop immediately

or you can put the belts around ur back so they look like backpack straps, and then have them in a way such as it fastens to the belt around your waste, looking like batmans belt and body straps, so it puts weight evenly around ur body instead of pulling at one spot

(you want it to look like this, and no im not joking, this could actually work)

thanks for the suggestions guys... yeah i had started thinking about possibly bringing in an old backpack to fill up with weights, but people already give me enough odd stares at the gym as is. same thing with the vest. it's odd, i do weighted dips with 90lbs and it doesnt affect me then... maybe i'm going down too fast on the pullups, adding momentum to the weight which then pulls on my spine? i think i may just try and slow down my reps a bit.

*wishing i had access to a chiropractor*
