Have you ever ripped into your boss?

Well, I just about had it at work today.. I'm 30 years old, college educated, working on my MBA part time, and Microsoft Certifications (self study). I work as a contractor now for major Aerospace company. Im a highly motivated employee, and I pride myself on finding a better, faster and more efficient ways to do my job. Im self managed, and need virtually no direction. Well, my fucking boss walks over to me and gives me a disk with an empty power point presentation that he gives monthly. He said he doesnt have time to do it, and he wanted me to do it (the sad thing is, it's all cutting a pasting bullshit.. completely administrative) . I said yeah right maybe If I get to present it, and he was like no.. Im your boss etc.. I told him, its not my responsibility to do his fucking work when he feels like slacking.. (golf with the buddies this afternoon). So I said no unless I can present. He told me he was going to contact the employment firm I work for.. Fuck him, Im not paid to be a secretary or his bitch. I do an outstanding job at what I was hired for, and I use my skills, creativity and knowledge to make large improvements in our little groups business practices.. I make $70K/yr and Im not about to suck anyone's dick for it.

If I were you I would contact my agency and let them know what's going on before this guy try's to screw you over. If the shit isn't in your job description to be his assistant then I wouldn't do it either.

Companies are running so lean these days that administrative assistants are becoming few and far between. Everyone has to help pick up the slack and BE A TEAM PLAYER to get the work done.

I would reacted differently.

Im twice as productive as any of the full time employee's here.. I often show them what Im doing and they try to emulate what I have done to make my work less administrative. Fuck, why waste money and pay someone $35 an hour to cut and paste shit.. Dont be penny wise and pound foolish and hire a fucking temp.. Ignorance breeds hidden costs and lower productivity..

Well i have this fat ugly beast for a boss. and my company is so badly run that all the money they earn is by keeping people working overtime. and nobody says no when they are asked to work overtime, damn sheeps. so we were standing around a bunch of people, and he was asking people to work overtime.

"So everybody is ofcourse working overtime this whole week!"
"Not me", i said.
"Why not?" he answeres..now, first of all, thats none of huis god damn buisness. but i thought, ok, lets go.
"Because i have to workout", i answered.
"Well you can workout here, just run around in the breaks" he answered..thought he was damn funny. so i told him:
"Why dont you do it yourself fatso, i aint planning on spending my life here and ending up barely being able to move my big lump of dead flesh from my car and in the door"
"....." complete silence

after that he never asked me to work overtime again. nobody did. actually they chiefs came up to me after everybody was ORDERED to work overtime and said "Hey Stig, you dont have to work overtime..we know you have plans"

Sometimes it pays to speak up.

So, should a manager to take his/her time to do "administrative tasks," or would it be wiser to delegate that task to a subordinate?

Using your logic, it makes perfect sence for you to bring your boss his coffee, because his time is more valuble than yours right??

First off when it comes to my job (as a production manager) I am a minority in the company and have fought tooth and nail to get to the position I am at now. I call it like I see it, and am a bit out-spoken, but am seldom wrong.

What I have found is that it is not always what you say to another person, but instead how you say it. I have gained the knowledge over the years to be able to tell someone exactly how I feel on a subject, without them becoming offended or defensive. And if the need arises for me to voice my opinion to my direct superiors, the discussion usually ends up in a productive manner. And in the end they look at me in a respectful manner and value my opinions.

You need to remember that when you are approaching those above you that you want to come out of the situation shining like gold.... Also, you don't always have to be negative to produce the results that you are looking for. There is nothing wrong with "sugar-coating" a story, as long as the general point is received.

I've lost it on my boss before.

Now I just torture everyone by not overseeing the supplies of the fax machine. No one can seem to understand that when you run out of paper or ink you need to refill it and when you run out of supplies to refill it with you have to mention it to me BEFORE there is no paper or ink left in the building.

It's a small treasure but it amuses me.
