Have people changed...

Since 9/11?

You hear people say how much they have changed since then, but I don't see it. I know the people in the areas of the attacks or who were directly affected by them have changed. What I'm talking about is the population as a whole.

Sure people were kinder and nicer right after the attacks, but within three months their old personalities came back. The one's who were nice before remained nice, and the rude ones returned to their old form.

I'm just curious as to how everyone else views this?

Hey Big, I'd have to agree with you. Of course, not enough happened to people for them to actually change though. Like you said, I believe the attacks changed those who were directly affected, but for those who weren't, it's life as usual.

It would take a number of tragic incidents, all over the country, affecting all of the population in some way......(a day I hope never happens) for people to change. The way of thinking has been developed over the growth (from the time we first arrived and stole land from Indians) of our country, and isolated incidents won't be enough to convince people that they need to change.

When people have to do things like rely on people they hate to help them, or save them, and they realize the ignorance they use to label whole cultures, religions, races, are reflections of their own insecurities, then maybe things will get better.

i am drastically different from who i was in september of 2001, but that is due to a variety of things. I don't know if 9/11 had any effect. I tend to think i wasn't affected by it. the only thing that bothers me is people jumping out of windows to escape carbon monoxide poisoning & fire.

I never changed. I may look selfish but like most canadians I saw this as a US matter. So I just turned off the TV after 30 minutes of coverage and went on my PC to play some Rogue Spear.

Oak - If you've read my posts, I'm all for helping people.

However, this is dangerous. Not just to the U.S., Israel, Iran, Korea... but to the entire world.

These people have been fighting for hundred's of years oak. While I support helping the women in Afghi Land become free of their bullshit rules and lifestyle, if Israel and Paki's want to fight each other, as they have for the past few hundred years... why should we jump in now?

Are those 2 countries ever going to stop fighting?

The answer is yes. And the answer is closer today than it has been since you and I have been alive. They'll stop fighting a day a nuke lands on one of them. Until then, these people will continue to fight.

Afterall, they fight for land they consider holy to their religion. It's a belief so passionate, neither side will just say fuck it and move.

Bullshit. Our government's have known longer than you and I have been alive Oak. The violence and ugliness we hear about constantly now... it was happening last year, the year before that, and for a few hundred years before that. We got involved because 2 airplanes crashed into our buildings.

Well, I'm glad you know that Newton. But... in 1942?? a bomb was dropped that effected the world. May have not killed everyone, but it ended a war... and saved many lives. Bombs are bigger and better today. 1 bomb, or 4 bombs systematically dropped on a country can eliminate that country, and cause dramatic change on the rest of the world.

Humans have a short memory! It is very, very sad! There are people that don't realize that the same hatred that caused Sept. 11 is displayed every time they call someone a Jew, a Wog, Nigger, Day-Go, Gook, and when they personally and sometimes physically attack someone because of their race, ethnicity, religion, or just because what they wear, their gender, their color or if they happen to walk into the wrong neighborhood!
Sept. 11 made me realize we all have one common enemy, our own ideologies and ourselves!
I cannot change the world, but I can live my life by treating everyone with love and respect, and hopefully influence some on the way!
