I'm going Friday if given a pass. I'd like to know where should I go, should I stay in a hostel or hotel and any good eatin' spots to take note of.

Grassy-ass
:Chef: :tuc:

i liked it there

theres this steak place, and this other place

both awsome

the other place was so good

sadly i dont know th enames of either

I was there in 1982.. that probably doesn't help much.

The beach at Ostia is great! YOu can take the train out there. Volcanic sand! Check out the Coleseum & the Forum.

That is the one place I really want to see. I would love to go to the vatican just for all the history!

How long do you have?

If short, tour the Vatican (world's smallest country), the Colessum and Forum.

If you get a chance take a tour of Republic era and then a tour of the Empire era.

If you are going to rent a car, I can recommend a few short trips to the outer area for you.

Visit all seven hills for a complete panaramic view of the entire city.

Fuck resturants, just eat when you come across something... spend the rest of the time enjoying the city. Use your military (I assume) pass to get discounts in hotels.

Roman Forum (actually, walk from the Colloseum to the Piazza de la Republica), you will go across the Arches (Tito et all) and the Forum.

If you have some time, go the Domus Aurea (Nero Residence), right next to the Colloseum

Several of the Piazzas are cool (specially for the lots of chicks): Piazza Spagna, Piazza del Popolo, etc.

Don't miss the monoliths they stole from Egypt, tour the Vatican.... skip the churches, once you see one you've seen them all.

Fuck, Rome is amazing, you need a week to see more or less something.

La Boca de la Veritá is well known, worth a pic, but not much

No, unfortunately, I haven't, but I hear that while you are there, you should do as the Romans do. ;-)

I'm betting there are some good Italian restaurants there. :RADAR :chomp:

;)

Oh yeah, get lots of pictures of Italian women in togas. :p

Some pics nigga.

I was heavy into Panorama pics back when we made this trip...scroll to the right to see the full pic, the 2 panoramas are, 1st, the view from the Colloseum, includingf the Arch of Tito and the Palatin (from where you can see all 7 hills). The second panorama is the innerview of the Colloseum

I was there last October. Nice place. But if you get a chance take a train to Florence. Much nicer there.

They are both worth visiting, different, each with its own flair.

Problem with Rome is:

way too crowded
dirty

whereas Florence is more laid back and easy to follow... then again, the grandeur of Rome can ony be found, well, in Rome

Couldn't you at least make all those people move first? The picture would be so much nicer.

Did you know it wasn't built in a day?

Okay, I've exhausted the two cliches I know about Rome...on to another thread now.

;-)

Awesome pics Pintoca, is that stone face called "mouth of truth" or something like that? I think it was a way of seeing if someone was lying or not. The person would place his hand inside the mouth and if it closed that meant they were lying.

My grandparents lived right across from the Colloseum. I've been to Naples when I was 10...if Italy wins the world cup I'm going back...there's so much I still want to see.

I went last year, and im going back again this September.

Be sure to see La Fontana Di Trevi.

Banned for taking pics in the Sistine Chapel!

Yo...
Sublime-I remember you going there last year....
Dunk-Didn't you have sex with your cousin or somethin' like that when you visited Italy...lol...j/k
AAP&Pimptoca-Thanks for the recommendations. I only have Friday and maybe through Monday. I need to be back on base for the 4th celebration.

Should I stay in a hostel or get a hotel?
:Chef: :tuc:

Lived in Rome for two years. If you want to get the whole experience stay in hostel. Nothing rated under 4 stars. For some kickin night life, the club called the alien is a must. B careful of the meals there. Everything is seven courses, and they're not the healthiest people in the world where cuisine is concerned. Have fun, it's a great trip.

I think CW is IN Florence...

We pulled into Port Fiumicino, Italy about 30 miles from Rome for the Fourth of July 1991. Italy provided transport for the crew back and forth from Rome. Great times. Definately check Vatican City and the Coliseum out. Beware of seating at outdoor cafes, you are charged for both your drink and a "rental fee" for the seat. Only for the first drink, however. I think Rome has the best calimari of the Mediterranean.
