Has anyone had synthetic synovial fluid injections for knees?

My old man has been having problems because his knee joints are bone touching bone. I watched on TV about a new procedure where they inject synthetic synovial fluid into the knee joint. I was wondering if any one has had it done or know someone that has. If so, did it work? Also how long does it last before you need to get another injection? Are there any risks with it? My dad refuses to have his knees replaced as long as he is still physically capable of movement.

I have heard of it, but I don't know anything about it's merits. I have knee problems (due to a 16-foot jump from a building on fire when I was 21). I use Adequan injections IM; not intraarticular (or directly into the joint) like syn-syn is. Adequan (acetyl-D-Glucosamine) causes the body to make more natural synovial fluid. It works OK for me, but it's not FDA-approved in the USA yet for human use. It is approved for horses though.
