Hanging Leg Raises for small waist?

nEwSkIn

New member
Hi

Just wondering if hanging leg raises are OK in terms of getting youjr abs tighter, making them not as bulky...

I´m trying to make my waistline slimmer, and I´d like to find out the best exercises for it (besides diet and cardio). Currently I´m not doing abs at all.

thanx!

You can't make a muscle "not as bulky" with any exercise ....

If you think your abs are too big, don't work them. Genetics may have pre-determined you to have large abdominals.

But....

if I don´t work them at all, they wont be as tight.. doesn´t that contribute to have the gut stick out?

The gut sticks out because it's fat ...

I should have been clearer earlier. Work them, just not heavy.

gut sticking out = fat

Some people also just have rounded bellies b/c of how their pelvis is tilted or how their abs are made. If you are predisposed to have a bigger waist and you want it to look slimmer, you can always make your back, shoulders and legs bigger! :D

okok... I´ll let you know how it looks when I get to 10% bf ;)

Right now I´m 15% bf.

What do you think about doing just a few hanging leg raises, say once a week? It can´t hurt... or should I really quit doing abs?

thanx

Can you say more about what your goals are and what your routine is like? I ask because if you quit doing abs it could hold back other lifts (like the squat).

And when you say you want a "slimmer waistline" do you mean that you desire a flatter tummy or a narrower waist?

thanx makedah..

Well, only recently I´ve started to shake up my routine... currently I´m doing relatively high reps, but increasing the weight. Started doing squants and deadlifts only 2 weeks ago! And already my pants are getting tight on my thighs! And I´m not bulking, I´m trying to cut.. however I´m seeing some gains, which is cool :)

So my goals currently are getting down to 10% bf (I´m 15%), slightly increase my LBM especially in the leg area and arms (chest is fine); this is sort of a preparation for DC training that I´m looking forward to doing soon.

But the part of my body I really dislike at the moment is my lower tummy. Besides the fact I might have some fat in there, I also get bloated too easily, maybe I have some food intolerance, that I am getting checked out very soon. When I look at myself sideways in the mirror, the belly part (lower abdomen) just sticks out... it really doesn´t look natural at all. I don´t think this is due to vary developed abs (although mine are not badly developed because at 15%bf I can still see some squares :) )

So that´s basically it. I´d like a flatter tummy more than a narrower waist. I know in order to achiece a narrower wais you have to make the rest of yourself bigger :) it´s a perception thing... but no, I´m just really trying to get my tummy flatter, more naturally tucked in, where it sould be ehehe.

Thanx a lot and sorry for the long post...

Oops, forgot to add that I´ve started doing HIIT and/or windsprints in the AM, love it! It probably is contributing to my increase in size on my legs too! And I feel I work the whole body when sprinting (abs as well) which is great.

Sometimes I just do low intesity cardio to recover.

thanx again :)

Newskin - are you male or female?

Could the roundness just be the shape of your belly? Has it always looked like that?

In terms of bloating - does it swell up sometimes and recede at other times?

I´m a male, so I should look "straighter" than a female eheh

It hasn´t always looked like this.. I know it. And in the morning when I wake up it is ususally fine, especially after I go to the bathroom :D

I´ve been having some trouble with constipation, I guess I should go like twice a day but I only go once when I wake up, if I´m lucky.

So yeah, the bloating swells a lot sometimes, especially at the end of the day, and I get gas too. I guess you are going to say that I have some sort of food intolerance or allergy, and I´d agree with you. no?

But anyways, any other advices are welcome.

thanx for helping

How's your posture? Good posture will help your lower ab look better. Also definitely sounds like there is something in your diet that doesn't agree with you. Dairy? Wheat? Carbonated drinks?

Yeah Candi Barr, I must have something conflicting with me in my diet... I will test that soon. I have no carbonated drinks though... I have plenty of beans and I think that is causing me some of the trouble too, I have to trace it dowbn to what´s really causing me all this problem.

I know posture helps, but my posture is already good:)

thanx

you can do the leg raises, just dont add weight...........and of course diet and cardio.
