Gym Advice

Please don't try to work out with heavy weight without a spotter.

Yesterday at the gym, this egghead was benching 315lbs without a spotter. I was looking but I heard a loud bang. He dropped the bar to one side and all the weight fell off. Everyone in the gym ran over to help him out and when I got there, this poor bastards left shoulder was dislocated so dam bad that I almost gagged (having dislocated mine several hundred times on the grid iron)!

Now, this poor bastard is going to be out of the gym for at least a month, and that is as long as he didn't tear anything. In that case it will be at least 7-12months depending on when his surgery is and how severe his tears are.

So, please just ask someone to spot you when you are using any type of weight in which you feel you will be struggling with. Personally, I like a spotter there even if I'm only benching 5lbs, cuz you never know!

I always ask whoever is closest (preferably the guys I know if they're there) for a spot as the last thing I need is an injury to hinder my progress.

good post, this is shit we tend to forget sometimes. I saw a guy next to me doing incline dumbells (45s) and the pin snapped on the bench and down it came, he got pretty fucked up from it. a spotter might have helped him in some way. This was just with 45s, so like stated above by the Cuban you should have a spotter regardless of the weight because shit happens.

GZEUS69 A SMITH DOESNT ALWAYS SAVE YOU!!! MY HAND SLIPPED OFF THE BAR ON A SMITH MACHINE AND THANK GOD IT HAD ENOUGH FORCE THAT IT LACHED 2 HOOKS DOWN, OR I WOULD OF HAD 500LB ON MY CHEST. ALSO I HAD A SPOTTER WITH ME AND IT HAPPENED SO QUICK BY THE TIME HE NOTICED IT WAS JUST HOOKING IN, SO NO MATTER WHAT MACHINE YOU ARE ON JUST ASK SOMEONE........LATER

Good call bro. No one can explain the feeling of having the bar stuck on your chest and no spotter until it happens to them. Pretty damn scary. I definitely learned my lesson

The only thing I can add is make sure your spotter is paying f@#king attention. I had a spotter who was f#$kin around lookin at the women, when the weights (335lbs) began sliding off one side. Of course by the time he noticed the bar was snapping back across my body to the other side to dump the weights... Believe it or not my spotter had put those spring collars on and it still slid, probably did'nt fit right but he was to busy watchin that ass.
