Guitar Peeps, I Need Help..

SWEET man! Looks very nice..... hows the action on that? I know all about the amp, good choice for you man... I really like the look of that bass........ Warwick's are sweet to answer your question, the one I played on was nice, but I didn't wanna give them 4 grand. My next one is gonna be handmade by a guy by my house... we are doing details.... but it's gonna take a while to get it all together and choosing wood is the tough part being I want whats called a "sandwich" meaning the body will consist of a few different types of wood glued together. It will have a special truss rod system in neck too. Basically to make it easier to hold the set up longer. when I get a final drawing of it I will post or PM it to ya.... also will have schematic diagram of the guts of it.... it'll look complicated but really, it will just give me more tonal control since I don't use many effects on my bass, sometimes none at all. Actually hardly at all LOL.....

Cool! Does the wood alter the sound or something?

I love my amp. He originally had me hooked up to a Ampeg 220w but it lacked punch. I told him I wanted to try the Fender 150 and he said the Ampeg would have better sound. He plugged it in to the Fender and shortly thereafter ate his words. For whatever reason this guitar on that amp has a lot of punch yet is wicked clean.

I need to figure out what all these knobs do.

Dude, i play with my fingers as with practice, you'll be better off. Hang with it man. You picked a excellent piece there. The darker color is sweet too. Just groove out some bass lines.... oh, I forgot, do you know your scales.... hehehehehe here comes music theory 101. Learn the notes on the neck then hook up with the different scales... its simple really, little gimmick sayings help ya there. Then, groove to music you like. Figure out the song. Hit some websites to learn them. Most of all, let your ear hear whats going on. Play that bass bro.... I post my rig when its all in one room........... if you get pro-tools we could trade stuff and create some crazy bass stuff.... I know of a band that is two bassist and a drummer and percussionist.... they are just plain good.

I've got a couple bass dvds I added to my netflix queue. Those should get me started. I only know the real basics, and "smoke on the water" lol.

I used to love the jazz bass, but man, mine are so much sweeter, probably because of the set up. I gotta crash soon. I catch up tomorrow dude.... hit some websites and learn some scales man.... get the notes on the neck, and play them scales everywhere. Make up bass lines. Hum something and play it. Just test yourself like that man, it works, and helps you ear.

I need to figure out what all these knobs do.

Well, we can start with the two that control loudness -- the "Volume" on the left and "Master" on the right. For a traditional clean bass tone, start with the "Volume" all the way down and the "Master" all the way up, then slowly bring up the "Volume" until you achieve the desired loudness.

Conversely, for the nastiest distortion the amp is capable of producing, do the opposite -- start with the "Master" all the way off and the "Volume" all the way up, and slowly bring up the "Master" until it's loud enough. From there you should be able to figure out the in-between range between those two extremes.

Start with all the other controls pointing straight up 12:00 o'clock. From there adjust tone controls to taste.

Sweet! Thanks bro, I was wondering why I had two volume controls. I was fiddling with it earlier and forgot there's also a volume control on the guitar. I turned that all the way up plucked a string and stuff on the walls rattled. My poor fish were probably thinking it was armageddon.

Generally you'll want the one on the bass all the way up, for starters.

Ok guitar geeks, I need more help. I think I want a 6 string electric now. Nothing overly fancy, <$1,000. I want a fat metal sound, from what I read I should look into Jackson, Ibanez, and ESP. Any others/recommendations?

Phat sound has more to do w/ pick ups and amp then anyting else.

All three of those guitars have nice models..

You prpbably wants emgs .vs seymour Duncans. Although I kike seymour D's for some stuff. :)

Can I just play it on my bass amp?

Went Ibanez. Hate the name, wanted a Jackson, but it had better sound than the others I tried out. Picked up a mid size amp too, 12" speaker, I think it's called Line 6. Has a bunch of cool distortion knobs built in. Need that distortion to cover up my lack of talent. I am slowly becoming razorguns.

That's a sexy Gretsch you have there, what's the one on the far right?

Rickenbacker 12-string, 610-12, made in 1991. The Telecaster is from 1966. The ones I've added since then but haven't photographed yet are a Gibson J45 acoustic, Fender Esquire, and Rickenbacker 330.
