Growing gut or lower back?

Dr Pump

New member
I've gotten into heavy deadlifts for the past month and i've been improving in deadlift reps on nearly every back day. My problem is i measured my lower abdominal region and it seemed to have increased.

Would this be due to growing spinal errectors or fat increase around the stomach?

Keep in mind, Im currently bulking, clean and no gear.

The ab region gets worked alot by deads and squats, so it would grow thicker in size like any muscle group. I have a thick waist but I got proportionally very big shoulders too. I do not worry about thickness much as I know that when I want my abs they are huge and ready to be revealed by proper dieting. But I do not intend to diet down for another 3 years, I have bulked for the last 3 years and I love the feeling of being a big mother f-ker.

well, you've been working deadlifts most of your girth would be erectors. I'm sure your obliques and abs probably grew some, but not that much. Add more mass to deltoids and lats and you'll even out.

The girth increase in the period of time that you mentioned (30 days) is most likely to be intestinal bloat from the bulking (not a bad thing - your intestines swell as they adapt to eating more). The abs and errectors do not need to grow very much to get stronger, and they are acting as stabalisers - tonic, static, NOT dynamic, NOT the actual muscles that lift the weight. Therefore, the growth is probably due to the time of day that you measure your waist, some extra abdominal fat, AND a small increase in your abs and errectors.

I've heard a lot of guys, bodybuilders who watch this stuff, that their waistline tends to increase but they like deads a lot.

One I know switched to partials and got similar results from exercise while maintaining a skinny waist, hope this helps. It depends on what matters most, skinny waist or strong dead?
