EBC-46. scientists find a cure for tumors and cancer in dogs.

taken from EcoBiotics Clinical Trials
EBC-46 is a new experimental drug for treating cancers in dogs, cats and horses

Australian drug discovery company EcoBiotics Ltd is developing a new drug, EBC-46, for the local treatment of a wide range of cancers in dogs, cats and horses.

In trials with a small number of dogs, cats and horses, intralesional injection of EBC-46 has successfully ablated or significantly palliated a range of advanced, inoperable tumours (melanomas, sarcomas, carcinomas, mast cell tumours & sarcoids) while causing no significant long-term side effects. A topical formulation of EBC-46 has also been used to successfully treat ulcerative squamous cell carcinomas on cats and horses.

EBC-46 is delivered locally in a single treatment by direct injection into tumours, or by topical application onto the tumour surface, and works principally by stimulating the patient’s innate immune system to destroy the tumour.

EBC-46 is active against a wide range of tumour types and is potentially useful in treating any tumour that can be accessed for direct injection or topical application of the drug.

EBC-46 only works locally at the site of delivery and there is no current evidence to suggest that EBC-46 has any systemic efficacy against metastatic disease in affecting remote secondary tumours.

they haven't tested it out on humans yet, but it dogs, it completely eliminated HUGE tumors in one day. It basically made them dissolve.

what the heck is this new compound and should we be worried about it when it's tested out on humans?

nah its serious, but not many people know about it yet. I really want to find out what samoth and java think about this. maybe even chris' opinion would be interesting too.

I'd have to read a few differernt articles to get an idea

the first concern that immediately comes to mind after skimmng the above is tumor lysis syndrome

didn't they make a movie about this in the late 80's??? robin williams was the Dr. and deniro was the patient.

what ever happened to the "nano's" they were trying to test on humans. did they ever give it a run on animals?

there was a show on the history channel the other day. some dude was saying future generations will live to be 1000.

he was going off how in the jesus days the average life span was late 20's/early 30's and then it spiked up to 80's. he was also basing his "study" off the two oldest people in recorded history. the lady was 115 and the man was 113. the show said dr's couldn't figure out how they were still alive, and that they should have ate it in their mid/late 70's. being well into their 100's they looked like they were in there 80's. kinda crazy

I watched that. Good one. I have been thinking of signing up with ALCOR to be cryogenically frozen. Totally serious.

We don't want that!

Shorter life cycles and more turnover of offspring give us more opportunities to evolve in a given time.

samoth, java?

I checked to see if they were publicly traded (they are not), but that's it, lol.

Lots of drugs make it past discovery into clinical trials, but most still fail -- something like 1 in 10k from discovery; dunno about from phase n.

Interesting nonetheless, but would take a lot of reading and research to find if it's anything at all credited. I don't know what non-fundamental medical/pharmacological breakthrough would suddenly target and destroy cancerous cells exclusively, so I tend to be sceptical.

great, one more thing to help us overpopulate the world.

Cancer is at least a few thousand individual diseases. We'll continue to find breakthrough treatments that target highly specific forms of the disease.

The trick is going to be identifying the underlying form of cancer and choosing the specific designer therapy to destroy it. Life sciences and gene technology has a lot of room to run in this area.

All 'boomers need to hurry up and die. Frankly, I don't care who choses this as long as it happens soon.

You need to just get your ass to work. As badly as I'm abusing my joints in the gym, I'm going to need at least two knee implants and two hip implants within the next twenty years. And I'll need those implants revised too, since I'll easily live past their current 15-20 year useful life.

That's about US $450k in health care in joint replacements alone. You owe it to me though, cause I've been paying my Medicare premiums.

Quit taking my social security, old man! Go die so the collective youth of this nation can fix your generation's fuckups!

I'm 42 -- in just 23 years away from free health care! And just think about my life expectancy. You get to pay for my stuff for at least 20-25 years. And screw that whole death with dignity thing. I want to cling to dear life at any cost.

The cool part is where you young guys get it from both ends. You'll work harder than ever to develop new technology and medical breakthroughs so you can spend even more money on me. That will help me live longer and expect what -- more medical breakthroughs from you young whippersnappers! If you work overtime, I might even make it to 100 years old.

It's like making someone purchase the bullet you're going to shoot them with.

You better be enthusiastic about this or it's going to stress me out. That means I'd need anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds and lifetime heart care.

I know it's all your dime, but the least you could do is take my feelings into consideration.

Dude, Viagra is soooooo 2000's. Medical technology has advanced. I'll be recieving lifetime hormone replacement therapy as that will become the new standard of care. I'm 23 years away from you paying for my HGH and j00sey-j00se.

Buy me the good shit too. None of that generic blue-cap stuff.

Who are you to choose who lifes and why others shouldn't? That's a horrible way to think about this situation that effects so many in bad ways.

It wouldn't be me deciding, it would be nature. That is life. Time to accept.

Quit taking my social security, old man!

Right now i can't be happier, i'm off of the social security grid by being on the railroad. We have our own which pays out A LOT more.

If we developed sufficient treatments to halt or even better destroy cancer, we wouldn't have to accept. I get your notion of letting natural selection take it's course, but I rather help restore lifes of good people. Tell me if you someone how developed cancer in the future wouldn't you treat it or live your life untreated?

It would depend on the cancer and quality of life i'd have. I plan on going down in huge blaze of glory. I may be 31, I may be 101, doesn't matter, but I do know that "I" am going to be in charge of my passing.

There is a reason for natural selection. If you or i develope something and live due to some med, odds are we'll pass that gene on to our children. Yay, we just hurt the future of mankind.

I wonder how many more cases of autism, cancer, downs syndrom, or any other ailment/condition/dna abnormality that there is in the world today since the near elimination of natural selction.

The world is being OVER populated and it's already starting to affect everyone.

I know me saying that will piss some people off, but it's just my $0.02

You are entitled to your own views. I disagree with you though. I’ve grown to love and care about those same people you may look down upon because of lesser born quality traits. You can say I have love for humanity and I understand some people are dealt harder hands in life. Nothing wrong with helping other’s that life in normal life’s, to get as close to a normal life as possible. The ability to care for other’s then yourself is a treasure. Never been a selfish person. I’m fully aware that everyone will parish, its called life cycle. Nothing last forever that’s for sure. Well were here, let’s have a more positive outlook on life and value the struggle’s to survive. To life is to prosper and not to die. Hell yea, I'm all for advances in modern medicine.
