Grape only?

Weapon X

Dumb Question #97:

Is there a reason that so many people prefer grape juice for their creatine? I am using Apple Juice - should I switch to grape?

Grape juice has more sugar than most other juices. Apple juice is fine so long as you drink enough to get about 35 gms of the fructose that you need. You could use kool-aid if you really wanted to and get the same effect.

Actually i read an article a while back on how grapefruit juice could be used and in theory it may be a little more beneficial than other juices. I can't really remember the scientific background for this claim but they did have a good example. I don't know if anyone has every drank a mixed drink made with grapefruit juice but some how the mixture of the two will get anyone drunk faster. The article supported this example for suggesting that creatine and grapefruit juice would be better. But who knows, i havn't been on creatine since i was 20 :D

Grape juice is better to drink with creatine than apple juice, because it higher in glucose. Therefore, it will cause a better insulin spike than grape juice.

I read a while back that it's best to avoid citrus juices for use with creatine. I don't remember why. Big help, I know. But I've always used gatorade, grape or apple juice. Hey, it was printed so it must be right........right?

Citrus juices contain citric acid which promotes the breakdown of creatine monohydrate, rendering it somewhat useless once it enters the body. However, I think that no matter what you mix it with, you should drink it quickly rather than just sip on it to ensure you are getting the most out of it.

I think grapefruit juice increases blood levels of certain substances or something along this line. This may be the reason why someone reccommended it to take with creatine. But I have read, on another board , that creatine is not a substance that grapefruit juice will improve concentration of. Maybe their is another mechanism to improve creatine supplmentation by using grapefruit juice that someone was addressing, but this an obvious factor about grapefruit juice, so I am guessing that was the reason someone brought it up. I don't think that grapefruit juice has some other miracoulous benefit that will improve creatine supplemenation, unless supplement companies would be using grapefruit juice(or compenents of it) in their product.

Also, from what I read on another board, Citrus juices will not degrade creatine as long as you don't leave it out for days.

I would think buying dextrose is the cheapest carb source and most effective carb to mix with creatine. Grape juice, is also effective, but may cost more, and I don't know if all its carbs come from glucose, I think it has more than glucose.
